Our revised consent order gives us new tools to ensure compliance, and we are prepared to use them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The comment comes after several top executives in Twitter departed the firm in recent days, including Yoel Roth, who was <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/11\/11\/post-censoring-twitter-exec-yoel-roth-among-latest-to-quit\/\">reportedly involved<\/a> in censoring social media posts around Hunter Biden ahead of the 2020 election.\u00a0Roth, who had frequently criticized former President Donald Trump, confirmed his departure from the social media company by changing his biography on the site to\u00a0 \u201cFormer Head of Trust &#038; Safety at @Twitter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In May 2022, the FTC fined Twitter $150 million over how it handled users\u2019 data and advertisements. That was months before Musk took over the company.<\/p>\n<p>The FTC spokesperson\u2019s confirmation Thursday about a possible investigation was in response to reports about a Slack message sent out by a Twitter lawyer to all employees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have heard Alex Spiro (current head of Legal) say that Elon is willing to take on a huge amount of risk in relation to this company and its users, because \u2018Elon puts rockets into space, he\u2019s not afraid of the FTC,\u2019\u201d the attorney claimed, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2022\/11\/10\/23451198\/twitter-ftc-elon-musk-lawyer-changes-fine-warning\">The Verge<\/a>. Musk and other top Twitter employees have not publicly commented on the message or confirmed it.<\/p>\n<p>The attorney went on to state that Twitter\u2019s legal department would mandate the company\u2019s engineers to\u00a0\u201cself-certify compliance with FTC requirements and other laws.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of this is extremely dangerous for our users. Also, given that the FTC can (and will!) fine Twitter BILLIONS of dollars pursuant to the FTC Consent Order, extremely detrimental to Twitter\u2019s longevity as a platform.
