I\u2019m like, \u2018Really?\u2019 The show\u2019s talking about the displacement of Native Americans and the way Native American women were treated and about corporate greed and the gentrification of the West, and land-grabbing. That\u2019s a red-state show?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Later in the interview, the \u201cYellowstone\u201d creator said he aims for \u201cresponsible storytelling\u201d that\u2019s influenced by Clint Eastwood\u2019s 1992 film \u201cUnforgiven,\u201d which he said changed the nature of good guys and bad guys in Westerns.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sheridan said Eastwood \u201clet the sheriff be a bully and the hero be this drunken, vicious killer.\u201d He \u201cshattered the myth of the American Western.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He continued, \u201cSo when I stepped into that world, I wanted there to be real consequences. I wanted to never, ever shy away from, \u2018This was the price.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This wasn\u2019t the first time Sheridan rejected the idea that the show was made for conservatives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople perceive all my stuff as red state, and it\u2019s the most ridiculous thing,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/08\/28\/arts\/television\/yellowstone-finale.html\">told<\/a> The New York Times in 2019. \u201cIf you truly look at this show or \u2018Wind River\u2019 or \u2018Sicario,\u2019 these are pretty wildly progressive notions. The people who are calling it a red-state show have probably never watched it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYellowstone\u201d has extraordinary viewership numbers, yet has never won a major award, which has caused some critics to speculate that it\u2019s because of bias against conservatism. It\u2019s often compared to the HBO drama series \u201cSuccession,\u201d which won 10 Emmys despite not having anywhere near the audience of \u201cYellowstone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The stars don\u2019t seem very concerned about winning at awards shows, however, as long as fans keep watching. Actor Wes Bentley, who plays Jamie Dutton in the series, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/hollywood-is-a-fickle-beast-cast-of-yellowstone-talks-major-award-snubs\">told<\/a> The Daily Mail recently, \u201cI personally don\u2019t think awards validate anything.
