That number is now considerably smaller and diminishing by the day as the Kremlin continues to lose tanks in its unprovoked war in Ukraine.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p><span>A great irony is that in April, a question being asked by military analysts was whether<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/09\/28\/the-us-and-europe-are-running-out-of-weapons-to-send-to-ukraine.html\"><span> Ukraine would run out of anti-tank weapons<\/span><\/a><span> before Russia ran out of tanks. Moreover, there were even concerns that the United States was facing a<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.csis.org\/analysis\/will-united-states-run-out-javelins-russia-runs-out-tanks\"><span> shortage of FGM-148 Javelin man-portable anti-tank missiles<\/span><\/a><span> as so many had been sent to aid Ukraine. However, U.S. production has ramped up and supplies are being replenished, while the same can\u2019t be said of Russia\u2019s tanks.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p><span>In fact, Moscow has restored to<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.19fortyfive.com\/2022\/10\/desperate-putin-russia-is-upgrading-ancient-t-62-tanks-for-ukraine-war\/\"><span> refurbishing older T-62 tanks<\/span><\/a><span> and has deployed hundreds or more to Ukraine. Not surprisingly, the \u201cgeriatric\u201d tanks haven\u2019t fared well on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.19fortyfive.com\/2022\/11\/putin-has-a-new-plan-to-kill-ukraines-tanks\/\">battlefield<\/a>, and Ukraine has reportedly captured enough that it could<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/davidhambling\/2022\/10\/06\/ukraine-capturing-more-antique-tanks-is-such-bad-news-for-russia\/#:~:text=According%20to%20the%20Military%20Balance,%2D72s%20and%20T%2D80s.\"><span> create an entire T-62 tank battalion<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Half of Russia\u2019s Tank Force Destroyed in Ukraine<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span>The situation certainly isn\u2019t getting better for Moscow, and this week, Pentagon officials suggested that Russia has<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/putin-russia-probably-lost-half-main-battle-tanks-ukraine-pentagon-2022-11\"><span> lost half its tanks<\/span><\/a><span>, used most of its precision-guided weapons, and suffered tens of thousands of casualties. It is also continuing to lose <a href=\"https:\/\/www.19fortyfive.com\/2022\/10\/ukraines-slow-death-military-strategy-to-beat-russia-in-kherson\/\">ground<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Colin Kahl suggested Tuesday that Russian President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.19fortyfive.com\/2022\/11\/russias-kherson-defeat-the-end-of-putins-regime\/\">Vladimir Putin<\/a> \u201chas failed.\u201d<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cRussia will emerge from this war weaker than it went in,\u201d Kahl told reporters. \u201cThey have suffered tens of thousands of casualties in eight months \u2014 orders of magnitude more than [the Soviet Union] experienced in Afghanistan in 10 years.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Kahl also said that the Pentagon has estimated that the Kremlin has probably lost half of its main battle tanks, and has seen more than 80 percent of its land forces bogged down in Ukraine. In addition, Moscow has \u201cspent down a majority of their precision guided munitions in Ukraine, and the sanctions and export controls will make it very difficult for them to rebuild their military to what it looked like before the war.\u201d<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p><span>The war could be described as a \u201cmassive strategic failure,\u201d and the situation is only getting worse.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Another Tank Column Destroyed<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span>Russia\u2019s forces have failed to learn from past mistakes in the war and continued to pay with men and material. That much was evident in a video clip posted to social media on Wednesday that has been viewed more than 130,000 times. It showed a Russian vehicle column on a narrow road coming under attack and being largely destroyed.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThis is how the suicidal attacks of Russian columns look like. It also showed the continued folly of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.19fortyfive.com\/2022\/10\/putins-crisis-the-russian-military-is-failing-in-ukraine\/\">Russia\u2019s forces<\/a> and helps explain how the Kremlin is now losing upwards of 10 main battle tanks daily.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p><span>The losses are so great that the question is now whether Russia could ever hope to recover from the conflict.
