The charges concerned allegations of keeping information about poll workers on servers in China. Yu has maintained that he never provided any data to China. However, if the allegations were true, they would violate the company\u2019s contract with L.A. County.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The district attorney\u2019s office said that the investigation was initiated because of a concern raised by Gregg Phillips, who is connected to True the Vote, a nonprofit out of Texas that aims to promote election integrity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe are concerned about both the pace of the investigation and the potential bias in the presentation and investigation of the evidence,\u201d Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gasc\u00f3n\u2019s office <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/legal\/la-dismisses-charges-against-ceo-election-software-firm-2022-11-10\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> in a statement. \u201cAs a result, we have decided to ask the court to dismiss the current case, and alert the public in order to ensure transparency.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cMr. Yu\u2019s good name was tarnished by false narratives from fringe conspiracy theorists who bragged about enlisting Los Angeles prosecutors to further their political agenda,\u201d Gary Lincenberg, an attorney for Yu in the criminal case, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/legal\/la-dismisses-charges-against-ceo-election-software-firm-2022-11-10\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> in a statement. \u201cMr Yu is an innocent man.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">New charges could still be brought as the Los Angeles Superior Court judge agreed to the dismissal without prejudice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Over the summer, True the Vote announced that it had discovered and downloaded Konnech\u2019s poll worker information from China-based servers. The group <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/11\/09\/technology\/konnech-eugene-yu-charges-dropped.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reportedly<\/a> gave no proof but said it had given a hard drive to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Phillips and Catherine Englebrecht, who is also connected to True the Vote, were sued by Yu over hacking and defamation allegations. They were put in jail on October 31 after they refused to provide information on a \u201cconfidential FBI informant\u201d connected to their alleged hack of Konnech\u2019s information. They were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2022\/11\/07\/true-the-vote-jail-release\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">imprisoned<\/a> for contempt of court and released earlier this week.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">After her release, Engelbrecht <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2022\/11\/07\/true-the-vote-jail-release\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> the Texas Tribune that she was \u201chours from home\u201d and could not do an interview.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThose who thought that imprisoning Gregg and I would weaken our resolve have gravely miscalculated. It is stronger than ever,\u201d Engelbrecht said in a statement. \u201cWe are profoundly grateful for that.
