She had made the revelation in the 1985 book, \u201cOn Your Own.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She went on to say the book\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/entertainment\">publisher<\/a> wasn\u2019t looking for details that she included. \u201cI wrote a very in-depth first chapter, and they didn\u2019t want it that way,\u201d the \u201cPretty Baby\u201d actress said. \u201cThey wanted a simple, stupid book like \u2018I like leg warmers.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shields said the chapter about sex was not \u201cabout abstinence per se but about owning your choice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would get a lot of fan mail from kids saying, \u2018Oh, my boyfriend\u2019s pressuring me, and I don\u2019t want to have sex. What do I do?\u2019 My narrative was, \u2018You don\u2019t have to do anything you don\u2019t want to,\u2019\u201d she told Wentworth.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cEndless Love\u201d actress said the media went wild over that one excerpt, turning her into the \u201cmost famous virgin in the world,\u201d which was \u201cvery creepy,\u201d especially when she was allegedly asked about her virginity by \u201cstrange older men\u201d during interviews.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut there was something, to be in the line of fire at such a young age in that way, I gained a resilience,\u201d Shields said of finding the silver lining in the situation. \u201cIt did sort of set me up to be ready kinda for anything in this industry, which can be difficult.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In her 2014 memoir, the actress discussed how her mother was \u201cunjustly judgmental\u201d of her relationship with actor Dean Cain, the person she first had sex with, and that \u201cshe feared it on a deeper level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know if she would ever admit to it, but this threat went beyond Catholicism,\u201d Shields said. \u201cI believe she wanted me to stay hers alone.
