Vehicles in production are not impacted, according to the company.<\/p>\n<p>As a result of the update, the\u00a0EPAS system in the affected vehicles may classify things like\u00a0potholes and bumps in the road as unexpected events, resulting in a reduction or loss of\u00a0power steering, according to the filing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn rare cases on certain 2017-2021 Model S and Model X vehicles, the updated calibration values may result in reduced or lost power steering assist due to forces from external road dynamics (i.e., potholes or bumps) being inadvertently classified as unexpected steering assist torque,\u201d the filing states. \u201cReduced or lost power steering assist does not affect steering control, but could require greater steering effort from the driver, particularly at low speeds.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As of Nov. 1, Tesla says it has identified\u00a0314 vehicles with the problem\u00a0among U.S. vehicles.\u00a0The defect could potentially result in an increased risk of crashing, Tesla said.<\/p>\n<p>Texas-headquartered Tesla noted that the vehicles impacted by the recall were identified based on \u201cvehicle manufacturing, service, and firmware deployment records.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Tesla Issues Update to Fix Issue<\/h2>\n<p>The Elon Musk-owned company said it has already issued an over-the-air software update to fix the issue and that\u00a0as of Nov. 1, over 97 percent of the vehicles under the recall have already been updated with the latest firmware.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo further action is necessary from owners whose vehicles are equipped with firmware release 2022.36.5 or a later firmware release,\u201d the company said.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla said it is\u00a0not aware of any injuries or deaths related to the issue and noted that all\u00a0Tesla stores and service centers will be notified about the recall on or\u00a0shortly after Nov. 3.<\/p>\n<p>Owner notification letters will also be sent out, the company added.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla has issued a number of recalls in recent years, including 17 recall campaigns in 2022 alone covering 3.4 million vehicles, according to Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>In September, the electric vehicle maker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/tesla-recalls-nearly-1-1-million-us-vehicles-to-update-window-reversing-software_4747612.html\">recalled nearly\u00a01.1 million U.S. vehicles<\/a>\u00a0over windows that may close too fast and cause injury.<\/p>\n<p>One month later, Tesla <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/tesla-recalls-24000-us-vehicles-over-seat-belt-issue_4826544.html\">recalled<\/a> just over 24,000 U.S. 2017\u20132022 Model 3 vehicles owing to seat belts that may have been\u00a0incorrectly reassembled during vehicle service.<\/p>\n<p>Referring to the\u00a0September recall on Twitter, billionaire Musk <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1572985952683065345\">wrote:<\/a> \u201cThe terminology is outdated &#038; inaccurate. This is a tiny over-the-air software update.
