Wade<\/em> earlier this year, the decision to codify abortion went back to the states.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe biggest battleground and the most significant war that\u2019s taking place in this nation is the demonic murder of children in the womb, and California is leading the way,\u201d Calvary Chapel Chino Hills Pastor Jack Hibbs told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/premiere-at-330pm-et-ep-70-pastor-jack-hibbs-shares-why-californias-proposition-1-is-murdering-children-in-the-womb-the-larry-elder-show_4803896.html?utm_source=ai&#038;utm_medium=search\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Epoch Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>So far, approximately 3.5 million California voters have favored <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=united+states+elections,+2022&#038;oq=202&#038;aqs=chrome.0.69i59j69i57j0i131i433l3j69i60l3.677j0j7&#038;sourceid=chrome&#038;ie=UTF-8&#038;si=AC1wQDAtx2BbmyBmykHcHVhKaK47dxPgH7TBmNxg0tt09qineGWzMcdjhgQ87fSbptPPwW5pSZtRqEKFcPrmBSYdl4a6OKAffsIw3BqoWegBIZNOH3vD1Lapy3M5UI5d7wfHMELgYzWl&#038;ictx=1&#038;ved=2ahUKEwi2lfKW2qH7AhXCmWoFHYvuC04QyNoBKAB6BAgLEAA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Proposition 1<\/a>, which changes the California Constitution to say that the state cannot deny or interfere with a person\u2019s so-called reproductive freedom and that people have the fundamental right to choose to have an abortion and use contraceptives.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom, who signed 15 abortion-related bills this year with a $200 million state budget included, contributed $3.4 million from his re-election campaign on the measure.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic Senate President Pro Tem Toni Atkins, who authored the bill, told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2022-11-08\/2022-california-election-proposition-1-abortion-rights-results\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Los Angeles Times<\/a> that California voters sent a \u201cloud, clear message to those who think they can control our bodies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn California, we will not go backwards,\u201d Atkins said.<\/p>\n<p>Current state law allows women to abort their child before the fetus can survive outside the womb or if the mother\u2019s health is in danger, and further defines the term \u201cperinatal\u201d as \u201cthe period from the establishment of pregnancy to one month following delivery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>California\u2019s Health and Safety Code says babies born alive after a failed abortion should receive\u00a0the same care as another infant of a similar age, and the code also maintains protections against fetal homicide.<\/p>\n<p>Pro-life groups argue that the measure\u2019s language could allow illegal late-term abortion, attract patients from states where lawmakers have banned or limited abortion, and ultimately place a heavier burden on California taxpayers.<\/p>\n<p>Susan Arnall, vice president of legal affairs at the <a href=\"https:\/\/righttolifeleague.org\/buffys-baby-slayer-bill-ab-2223\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Right to Life League<\/a>, told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/pro-life-attorney-warns-of-californias-abortion-apocalypse-in-wave-of-new-legislation_4766845.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Epoch Times<\/a> that Proposition 1 shares the same pro-abortion language as AB 2223, which would protect anyone who kills a baby born alive if the mother agrees with the \u201cpregnancy outcome\u201d and if a baby\u2019s death happened due to \u201ccauses that occurred in utero.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is why AB 2223 is the true danger,\u201d Arnall said. \u201cAB 2223 will eliminate California\u2019s current <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> era restrictions on abortion, creating an unlimited right to abortion for all nine months of pregnancy, including after the live birth of a baby. It does this with the language \u2018perinatal death due to causes that occurred in utero.\u2019 This phrase is vague and totally undefined.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAB 2223 will prevent any investigation into the cause of a baby\u2019s death, erasing justice for the unwanted baby born alive,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Across the nation, Vermont codified abortion in the state\u2019s Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/vtdigger.org\/2022\/11\/08\/measure-to-enshrine-abortion-rights-in-vermont-constitution-poised-to-pass\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">local media,<\/a> residents supported Proposal 5, which gives individuals a right to so-called personal reproductive autonomy, by a margin of 72%-22%.<\/p>\n<p>While lawmakers and pro-choice activist groups like the ACLU of Vermont, the League of Women Voters of Vermont, Alliance for a Better Vermont, and Planned Parenthood Vermont Action Fund celebrated the measure\u2019s passage, opposers of the bill said it came as a surprise.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe knew it was an uphill battle to actually be able to successfully share the truth of what the ramifications of this amendment would be,\u201d Rep. Anne Donahue, R-Northfield, a spokesperson for Vermonters for Good Government, told local media. \u201cI still believe that if Vermonters really understood the implications, they would not have supported it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vermont lawmakers have already legalized abortion in the state without restrictions, and leave regulating it up to medical professionals.<\/p>\n<p>Michigan residents have also decided to protect abortion rights by enshrining them in the state\u2019s Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>Tracey Brame, an associate dean at Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School, told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.woodtv.com\/news\/elections\/michigan-protects-abortion-rights-in-state-constitution\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">local media<\/a> that lawmakers would move to decide how to define abortion limits given the vagaries of the proposal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo part of the criticism of the proposal, of course, has been that it\u2019s extreme, that there are terms in the proposal that expand abortion rights far beyond anything that <em>Roe<\/em> did, that you won\u2019t need parental consent anymore, that there\u2019ll be partial birth abortion, etc., based on the supposed breadth of the language,\u201d Brame said. \u201cSo there\u2019ll certainly be moves almost immediately to define those terms, try to figure out what they mean, and either expand or retract them, depending on your point of view.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Limitless abortion measures were overwhelmingly approved Tuesday in California and Vermont, paving the way to enshrine so-called reproductive rights for women into both state constitutions next year.
