Certain <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/bestlifeonline.com\/medications-causing-constipation-news\/\" target=\"_blank\">medications you&#8217;re taking<\/a>, or a lack of fiber in your diet, are common culprits. But it&#8217;s a symptom worth paying close attention to, because it could signal something very serious\u2014<a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/bestlifeonline.com\/constipation-parkinsons-news\/\" target=\"_blank\">including Parkinson&#8217;s disease<\/a>, dementia, or colon cancer.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When the <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/bestlifeonline.com\/colon-cancer-symptom-news\/\" target=\"_blank\">colon becomes cancerous<\/a>, tumors can form and block the normal flow of stool and prevent stool from passing through which can cause constipation,&#8221; says WebMD, whose experts note that other causes for black, tarry stools include bleeding ulcers, iron supplements, or medicines that contain bismuth.<\/p>\n<p>However, &#8220;If you have bleeding in the upper GI tract\u2014the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum\u2014you could have black, tarry stools that are called melena,&#8221; warns Williams.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"noopener noreferrer external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/cancer\/in-depth\/diarrhea\/art-20044799\" target=\"_blank\">Other cancers<\/a> can cause diarrhea too, according to the Mayo Clinic. &#8220;These include neuroendocrine tumors, colon cancer, lymphoma, [and] medullary thyroid cancer.&#8221;
