Version: 4.0.47--><p>Governments, medical authorities, media outlets, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-big-pharma\">Big Pharma<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-big-tech\">Big Tech<\/a> colluded to censor medical professionals\u2014with differing views on COVID-19 science\u2014by deploying a range of tactics, including suppression of academic journals and online censorship, a new study confirms.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s11024-022-09479-4\">study<\/a>,\u00a0\u201cCensorship and Suppression of Covid-19 Heterodoxy: Tactics and Counter-Tactics,\u201d found well-known scientists and doctors were forced to find ways to circumvent this censorship and get the word out.<\/p>\n<p>Together the five researchers behind the study said there were attempts to silence prominent medical experts on issues such as the origins of SARS-CoV-2, mask mandates, the efficacy of drugs such as hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin, the usefulness of lockdowns and restrictions, the effectiveness of vaccines, and whether vaccine mandates and passports were appropriate.<\/p>\n<p>This censorship targeted \u201cwell-credentialed, highly accomplished mainstream\u201d doctors and scientists, not fringe figures.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany of them leading experts working in prestigious universities and\/or hospitals, some of whom have authored books and published dozens or even hundreds of papers and whose studies have been widely cited,\u201d the paper said.<\/p>\n<p>The study involved long-form interviews with 13 doctors from different countries worldwide.<\/p>\n<h2>Broad Range of Tactics Used to Maintain the Consensus<\/h2>\n<p>The range of tactics deployed to censor health experts was \u201cunprecedented\u201d compared to the suppression of dissenting viewpoints in other areas like fluoridation, environmental studies, and AIDS science.<\/p>\n<p>Some experts said media outlets stopped interviewing them for comment and claimed they were defamed while being slapped with labels such as \u201canti-vaxxer,\u201d \u201cCOVID denier,\u201d \u201cmisinformation spreaders,\u201d or \u201cconspiracy theorist.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Further, some reported having their social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube, Google, and LinkedIn taken down.<\/p>\n<p>One expert says they even experienced censorship on Google Docs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoogle Docs started restricting and censoring my ability to share documents \u2026 This is an organisation telling me that I cannot send a private communication to a colleague or to a friend, or to a family member,\u201d the expert told researchers.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4300939\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2022\/02\/24\/IMG_3795-1--1200x800.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy size-medium_vertical wp-image-4300939\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/themes\/eet\/images\/white.png\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/IMG_3795-1-525x350-1.jpg\" alt=\"Epoch Times Photo\" width=\"525\" height=\"350\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium_vertical wp-image-4300939\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/IMG_3795-1-525x350-1.jpg\" alt=\"Epoch Times Photo\" width=\"525\" height=\"350\" \/><\/noscript><\/figcaption><\/a> Parents, teachers, and students protest mask and vaccine mandates in Temecula, Calif., on Feb. 22, 2022. (Courtesy of Stephanie Dawson)<\/figure>\n<p>Medical experts also reported being suppressed by the academic and medical communities.<\/p>\n<p>One doctor\u2019s name appeared on the website of his country\u2019s Ministry of Health\u2014out of 55,000 physicians\u2014saying he was distributing disinformation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was a concerted effort to \u2026 ruin my reputation even though, this is unbelievable, they [the hospital where I work] had the lowest death rate basically in the world,\u201d he told researchers.<\/p>\n<p>Other experts reported receiving warnings or being dismissed from prestigious committee positions without transparency. While some faced official inquiries for the removal of their medical license or multi-million-dollar lawsuits from the country\u2019s health department.<\/p>\n<p>Journal articles were also pulled from publication or rejected without peer review.<\/p>\n<p>One doctor said the police suddenly arrived at his home clinic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe [medical board] showed up unexpectedly one day without a warrant to search my house, which was listed in their records as my office, to do a medical office inspection, which doesn\u2019t require a warrant [in my country],\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<h2>Big Tech a Major Player in Censorship<\/h2>\n<p>Another key feature of the silencing of the medical profession was the role played by Big Tech.<\/p>\n<p>One example cited by the study was the down-ranking of the website of the Great Barrington Declaration by Google. (Reuters)<\/figure>\n<p>Another example occurred in 2021 when LinkedIn and Twitter both removed the accounts of Dr. Robert Malone, an internationally renowned virologist involved in the development of mRNA vaccines.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis heavy censorship was done with the encouragement of governments, which cooperated with tech companies such as Facebook, Twitter, and Google,\u201d the study said. In March 2022, U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/judge-rejects-biden-administrations-attempt-to-block-depositions-in-big-tech-government-censorship-case_4837648.html\">called on<\/a> the tech giants to report \u201chealth misinformation\u201d and step up efforts to remove it.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, the study said the influence of pharmaceutical firms on public discourse was \u201cself-evident.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the main unresolved COVID-19 controversies is related to early treatment with repurposed drugs, and it has been claimed that highly unusual measures were taken to prevent physicians from using them.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Characteristics of Censorship<\/h2>\n<p>The researchers said all the tactics used against medical professionals were consistent with the five characteristics of censorship identified in <a href=\"https:\/\/ro.uow.edu.au\/lhapapers\/1884\/\">earlier studies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The first was to \u201ccover up\u201d any evidence of censorship. The researchers said \u201cfact-checkers\u201d deployed by media outlets were a common way to achieve this. By posing as an independent, third-party fact checker, a health professional could easily be discredited while masking the real source behind censorship.<\/p>\n<p>Second, \u201cdevaluation\u201d involves smear campaigns or dismissing a person from an official position as a way to deflect attention from the substance of an alternative viewpoint and instead focus attention on the individual.<\/p>\n<p>The third was \u201creinterpretation\u201d or reframing any move to censor as a means of \u201cprotecting the public\u201d from misinformation.<\/p>\n<p>The fourth involves using \u201cofficial channels\u201d to silence dissident medical experts via formal proceedings like investigations, withdrawal of their medical licenses, lawsuits, or police searches.<\/p>\n<p>All the above tactics were deployed with the motivation of \u201cintimidating\u201d the medical expert into silence.<\/p>\n<p>Yet the censored individuals were still determined to circumvent all the tactics and expose the censorship, saying there were \u201ctoo many alternative communication options\u201d available.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of the respondents noted that they are working to establish new alternative platforms and organisations dedicated to developing and providing health information and medical treatments\u2014including new journals and non-profits, instead of the existing ones, which they claim have failed and disappointed.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"author_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"one_author_block round\">\n<div class=\"top_row\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/author-daniel-y-teng\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2021\/03\/14\/WEB_DanielTeng.jpg\" alt=\"Daniel Y.
