The Republican candidate previously said he supported a total abortion ban, but then agreed with exceptions for rape, incest, and the mother\u2019s mental and physical health.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cScott either in May blatantly lied to his supporters to get the endorsement of the Republican party by saying, \u2018Of course we\u2019re going to ban abortion,\u2019 or he\u2019s flipped on it now,\u201d Walz <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mprnews.org\/story\/2022\/10\/28\/walz-jensen-clash-in-final-debate-before-election-day\">accused<\/a> weeks before the election.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Home to some of the nation\u2019s largest retailers like Target and Best Buy, Minnesota\u2019s economy was at the forefront of voters\u2019 minds, especially as consumers faced rising prices. Going into the race, Walz boasted \u201ca strong economy in Minnesota\u201d as one of his biggest accomplishments, even as inflation continued to affect households in the state.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jensen jumped on Walz\u2019s record on the economy, pointing to his proposal for more taxes amidst the Biden administration\u2019s \u201creckless spending binge\u201d as a reason for new leadership in Minnesota. He accused Walz of threatening to take more money out of the pockets of hardworking Minnesotans even as inflation wreaks havoc across the country.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The governor claimed in a debate that he has never raised taxes on Minnesotans, but earlier this year, Walz wanted to hike taxes on the rich and raise the gas tax in his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.house.leg.state.mn.us\/SessionDaily\/Story\/15504\">2022-2023 budget proposal<\/a> only to scrap the ideas after negotiations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jensen also took shots at Walz\u2019s record on crime, calling him \u201cthe godfather of the crime epidemic.\u201d The state\u2019s violent crime rate<a href=\"https:\/\/dps.mn.gov\/divisions\/ooc\/news-releases\/Pages\/BCA-Releases-2021-Uniform-Crime-Report.aspx\"> jumped<\/a> 21.6% in 2021 after a 17% increase from 2019 to 2020.<\/p>\n<p>In the wake of George Floyd\u2019s death at the hands of police, parts of Minneapolis were burned and looted in violent riots under Walz\u2019s watch.
