Kemp\u2019s Tuesday victory represents the second election in which the Georgia Republican trounced Abrams, with the first instance being in the state\u2019s 2018 gubernatorial race.<\/p>\n<p>As of this article\u2019s publication, Kemp leads Abrams by more than 300,000 votes with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/election\/2022\/results\/georgia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">roughly 88 percent<\/a> of the total votes tabulated. Assuming Kemp manages to receive more than 50 percent of the vote, the contest will not head to a runoff. The race was a major waste of money for Abrams, who raised <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/georgia-governors-race-between-abrams-kemp-raises-record-funds-nearly-170m\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">nearly $100 million<\/a> in her failed 2022 bid, compared to the roughly $69 million raised by Kemp.<\/p>\n<p>Despite Kemp winning by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/election\/2018\/results\/georgia\/governor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">roughly 55,000 votes<\/a> in 2018, Abrams has repeatedly asserted through the years that the contest was illegitimate due to nonexistent voter suppression. In what should have been her concession speech, Abrams <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/11\/16\/us\/elections\/georgia-governor-race-kemp-abrams.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told<\/a> a crowd of supporters shortly after the 2018 contest that \u201cconcession means to acknowledge an action is right, true, or proper\u201d and that \u201cas a woman of conscience and faith, I cannot concede.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since then, Abrams has used her various interviews with left-wing legacy media outlets to further promote her unfounded claims. During an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2019\/04\/28\/magazine\/stacey-abrams-election-georgia.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">April 2019 interview<\/a> with The New York Times, for example, Abrams told the outlet that while she recognizes that \u201cBrian Kemp secured a sufficient number of votes\u201d under Georgia\u2019s 2018 election system, she does not \u201cconcede that the process was proper\u201d or \u201ccondone that process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Georgia Democrat went on to repeat similar remarks later that year during an <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/457934-stacey-abrams-responds-to-rnc-chairwoman-concession-means-to-say-that-the\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">August 2019 interview<\/a> with CBS News, saying that \u201cconcession means to say that the process was fair, but when I run an organization that in\u00a010 days between election night and the night I refuse to concede we receive more than 50,000 phone calls for people who were denied the right to vote I am complicit if I say that that system is fair.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Try as she might to excuse her horribly run 2018 campaign, Abrams\u2019 phony claims were put to bed back in September when a federal judge appointed by former President Barack Obama <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/10\/03\/judge-smacks-down-stacey-abrams-bogus-claims-of-voter-suppression-in-2018-election-loss\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ruled<\/a> that Georgia\u2019s 2018 election laws did not violate the constitutional rights of state voters. In his opinion, Judge Steve Jones noted that while \u201cGeorgia\u2019s election system is not perfect,\u201d the \u201cchallenged practices violate neither the constitution nor the [Voting Rights Act of 1965]\u201d and that the plaintiffs \u2014 one of which was an organization aligned with Abrams \u2014 did not meet the burden of proof with respect to their claims that the laws hindered Georgians\u2019 ability to vote.<\/p>\n<p> Shawn Fleetwood is a Staff Writer for The Federalist and a graduate of the University of Mary Washington.
