In addition to Trump\u2019s endorsement, Sanders had the backing of outgoing Governor Asa Hutchinson (R) and held a commanding lead throughout the race.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The centerpiece of Sanders\u2019 platform was her \u201cplan for a safer, stronger Arkansas,\u201d which outlined her strategy to lower violent crime. In her proposal, she promised to \u201cnever defund the police,\u201d increase prison capacity, and vowed to \u201cpush back on the dangerous rhetoric of the radical left.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jones opposed Sanders\u2019 anti-crime platform and pushed his own \u201cPB&#038;J\u201d plan, which stood for pre-school, broadband, and jobs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sanders also campaigned on a plan to further prioritize education in Arkansas. The proposal, called LEARNS (Literacy, Empowerment, Accountability, Readiness, Networking, and School Safety), aims to increase learning opportunities for kids in the state and \u201cnot indoctrinate them with the left\u2019s agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sanders had all the advantages in a red-state contest, from name recognition and a family tree to policies that resonated with voters.
