AMID GOP GAINS AMONG BLACK AND LATINO VOTERS<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Biden was \u201cthe only person who beat Donald Trump,\u201d former White House press secretary <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/jen-psaki\">Jen Psaki<\/a> told a group of MSNBC interns who asked if she believed he was the best person to run again, <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/news\/2022\/11\/jen-psaki-msnbc-midterms?redirectURL=https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/news\/2022\/11\/jen-psaki-msnbc-midterms\">according to<\/a> a profile in <i>Vanity Fair<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Biden said over the summer that he <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-07-13\/biden-would-not-be-disappointed-with-trump-rematch-in-2024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cwould not be disappointed\u201d<\/a> to face a rematch against Trump \u2014 a rapidly approaching possibility as the former president <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/politics\/on-election-eve-trump-teases-very-big-announcement-amid-2024-speculation\">teases a mid-November announcement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But at 79 years old, Biden faces increasing skepticism over his plans, including from members of his party. Some have called for a <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/3681989-tim-ryan-says-biden-shouldnt-run-in-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new generation of leadership<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Trouble for Democrats on Tuesday could spur calls for Biden to step aside.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPart of me has this feeling we may get clobbered \u2014 which will immediately lead to calls to change the leadership across the board,\u201d from the White House through Congress to the Democratic Party apparatus, said a longtime Biden supporter and former Democratic Party chair of a battleground state. \u201cAnd they won\u2019t be wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Nov. 2, less than one week before the midterm elections, <i>Washington Post<\/i> columnist George Will <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2022\/11\/02\/biden-harris-drop-out-2024-george-will\/\">offered<\/a> a cutting assessment of the president\u2019s prospects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBiden is not just past his prime; even adequacy is in his past,\u201d said Will, who backed Biden in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>To nominate Biden and Vice President <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/kamala-harris\">Kamala Harris<\/a> again would \u201cinsult and imperil the nation,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Biden has not announced a formal decision to run, but the president has said he intends to, pushing back against the suggestion that age should factor into his choice and cited the support of a crucial determinant: his wife, first lady <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/jill-biden\">Jill Biden<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with MSNBC\u2019s Jonathan Capehart, Biden was recently asked how the president\u2019s late son, Beau, who <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/08\/02\/opinion\/sunday\/maureen-dowd-joe-biden-in-2016-what-would-beau-do.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pushed<\/a> him to run in 2016, might respond to people who say he should not seek reelection because of his age.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only reason to be involved in public life is: Can you make life better for other people?\u201d Biden said in response. \u201cAnd depending on who the opponent is, if they have a view that is so the antithesis of what I believe democracy [is], and I believe is good for average Americans, then, his argument was, \u2018Dad, you have an obligation to do something.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Current and former Democratic insiders told the <i>Washington Examiner<\/i> last month that they would \u201cget right in behind\u201d Biden if he announced a run for reelection, saying he had <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/democratic-loyalists-stick-with-biden\">\u201cearned the right\u201d<\/a> to do so.<\/p>\n<p>And in private comments, Biden recently <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/biden-al-sharpton-reelection\">told Rev. Al Sharpton<\/a>, an early confidant in 2020, that he was \u201cgoing to do it again\u201d in 2024. <\/p>\n<p>Close advisers have begun laying the groundwork eyeing a possible announcement early next year, though no decision has been made, <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/11\/01\/biden-plans-2024-reelection-bid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to<\/a> the <i>Washington Post<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Sources told the <i>Washington Post <\/i>that they feared the prospect of a slow rollout, including \u201ctwo or three months with essentially one hand tied behind our back, because even if we are running at full speed, we still will not have a candidate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One Republican strategist and Trump White House official told the <i>Washington Examiner<\/i> that Biden would need to announce his plans before Christmas, lest donors start to \u201cscatter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Facing Democrats now is the possibility of a bruising electoral landscape that could prompt sharper scrutiny of the president\u2019s record as the party awaits a formal announcement. <\/p>\n<p>On the campaign trail, Biden has touted his presidency\u2019s successes, dwelling little on the deep economic concerns <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/biden-slamming-ceiling-democrats-votes\">weighing<\/a> on the electorate. Instead, the president last week warned in remarks near the Capitol that voters this year confront \u201cquestions [over whether] the vote we cast will preserve democracy or put us at risk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a message Biden is at pains to reinforce as he draws the contrast with Trump and other prominent Republicans. But on issues from the economy to crime, voters indicate they are unhappy with Biden\u2019s leadership.<\/p>\n<p>Polls show Republicans tilting the balance with <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/white-suburban-women-shift-support-to-republicans\">suburban women<\/a> and making inroads with black and Latino voters, a shift that Biden\u2019s lead 2020 campaign pollster said could <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/restoring-america\/patriotism-unity\/biden-pollster-warns-of-paradigm-shift-amid-gop-gains-among-blacks-and-latinos\">bode a \u201cparadigm shift\u201d<\/a> if the analysis holds.<\/p>\n<p>While the president\u2019s party historically loses seats in Congress in their first midterm election, the forecast would scramble the party\u2019s long-standing advantage with minority voters.<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s victory in 2020 <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.brookings.edu\/research\/bidens-victory-came-from-the-suburbs\/\">hinged on these groups<\/a>, and too strong a drift could prompt new questions about his ability to rouse the same voters again in a possible rematch against Trump.<\/p>\n<p><b><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\">CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>On the eve of the election, Biden said he was \u201coptimistic\u201d about his party\u2019s chances. Asked whether Democrats could win the House, the president responded: \u201cI think it\u2019s going to be tough, but I think we can. I think we\u2019ll win the Senate.
