But Republican candidates have surged in key U.S. Senate races in recent weeks, giving the GOP confidence it can end the 50-50 deadlock that Vice President Kamala Harris can break.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s pretty clear that Republicans have the wind at their back,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/jim-manley\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jim Manley,<\/a>\u00a0a former aide to the late Democrat Senate Majority Leader\u00a0Harry Reid, <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/3710042-the-memo-republicans-gain-momentum-in-midterms-final-stretch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> The Hill. \u201cI thought a few weeks ago that we could keep the losses in the House to single digits. That\u2019s no longer the case. And my big fear is what is going on with the Senate races.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">There will be no red wave if you don\u2019t actually vote. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI voted for X\u201d means leaving your house, hitting the polls, and getting the sticker. <\/p>\n<p>It doesn\u20195 mean wanting X to win really bad and then complaining on Twitter when X loses. <\/p>\n<p>Vote, Republicans. Republicans are widely expected to capture anywhere from 25 to as many as 40 seats, giving them a powerful majority. Polls have shown several House seats thought to be safe for Democrats suddenly within the margin of error, forcing Democrats to play defense with their campaign funds.<\/p>\n<p>A Republican House majority would be able to stop the Biden administration\u2019s agenda in its tracks, and could also mount fresh investigations of a host of actions taken while Democrats had an iron grip on the Legislative and Executive branches.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first thing you\u2019ll see is a bill to control the border first,\u201d House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), who is in line to be the next speaker, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/11\/07\/politics\/kevin-mccarthy-interview-border-security\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> CNN. \u201cYou\u2019ve got to get control over the border. You\u2019ve had almost 2 million people just this year alone coming across.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy pledged not to use impeachment as a political weapon, as many Republicans believe Democrats did during former President Donald Trump\u2019s administration. But he didn\u2019t take the \u201cI word\u201d completely off the table.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will never use impeachment for political purposes,\u201d McCarthy said. \u201cThat doesn\u2019t mean if something rises to the occasion, it would not be used at any other time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Senate majority rests on a handful of key races that final polls showed could go either way. There are 35 seats at stake on Election Day, including 21 held by Republicans and 14 held by Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>There are at least four Senate seats Republicans stood a strong chance of flipping heading into Tuesday. In Arizona, political newcomer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/new-polls-show-republican-blake-masters-breaking-into-the-lead-against-democrat-mark-kelly-in-final-days-before-midterms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Blake Masters led incumbent Democrat Sen. Mark Kelly<\/a> by a razor-thin margin heading into Tuesday\u2019s election. Former U.S. Army Brigadier General <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/new-hampshire-could-see-general-election-as-bolduc-takes-lead-in-trafalgar-daily-wire-poll\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Don Bolduc led another incumbent Democrat, Maggie Hassan<\/a>, in New Hampshire\u2019s Senate race; former NFL great Herschel Walker held a narrow lead over incumbent Democrat Sen. Raphael Warnock in Georgia; and Nevada Attorney General <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/republican-laxalt-leading-sen-cortez-masto-in-nevada-poll\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Adam Laxalt held a strong lead over incumbent Catherine Cortez Masto<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In a race that could turn a bad night into a debacle for Democrats, nurse-turned-Republican Senate candidate Tiffany Smiley was in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/washington-senate-race-now-a-toss-up-as-two-polls-show-republican-tiffany-smiley-tied-with-democrat-patty-murray\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a statistical tie<\/a> with five-term Democrat Sen. Patty Murray in the state of Washington.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats were hoping to flip seats held by retiring Republicans in Ohio and Pennsylvania. But J.D. Vance holds a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/j-d-vance-takes-lead-in-ohio-senate-race-after-debates-poll\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">commanding lead<\/a> over longtime Democrat Rep. Tim Ryan in the race to fill the Ohio seat being vacated by Rob Portman. In Pennsylvania, television star and retired surgeon <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/11\/03\/oz-pulls-ahead-of-fetterman-in-pa-senate-race-polls\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. Mehmet Oz (R) was in a dead heat with Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman (D)<\/a>, who sustained a stroke in May and struggled on the campaign trail and in their sole debate.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats had also hoped to capture the seat held by Wisconsin Republican Sen. Ron Johnson, but despite early polls that showed Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes in a close race, more recent polls appeared to show Johnson with a comfortable lead.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe energy on our side is unbelievable,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/news\/politics\/rick-scott-predicts-republicans-will-win-senate-majority-with-at-least-52-seats\/ar-AA13Q4S1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sen. Rick Scott, R-FL, told Fox News<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019ve been traveling all around the country, whether it\u2019s Don Bolduc up in New Hampshire, or Oz, Herschel Walker. We\u2019ve got big turnouts all across the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you look at the early voting, we\u2019re headed in the right direction,\u201d he added. \u201d So I\u2019m optimistic.
