In California, which not only leads the nation in \u201cclean energy\u201d production but is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.13newsnow.com\/article\/money\/cars\/virginia-may-follow-california-2035-ban-new-gas-vehicles-state-law\/291-0dafe379-1a08-4fab-96b1-cec3e859c01f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">leading the rest of us<\/a> into rolling blackouts, residents <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energybot.com\/electricity-rates-by-state.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pay<\/a> 24.62 cents per kilowatt-hour for energy, around double the national average. There are only three other states where residents fork 20 or more cents over, the isolated Hawaii and Alaska and the frack-banning New York. The <a href=\"https:\/\/gasprices.aaa.com\/state-gas-price-averages\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">price of a gallon of gas<\/a> in California is around two dollars over the national average, at $5.458. In Texas, it\u2019s $3.173.<\/p>\n<p>The president also forgot to mention that affordable natural gas, propelled by technological efficiencies like fracking, is as much a reason for the struggles of coal. <\/p>\n<p>After West Virginia\u2019s Joe Manchin groused about Biden\u2019s denigration of his state\u2019s top industry , the White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JacquiHeinrich\/status\/1588984357611786241?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">walked back<\/a>\u201d the comments, contending that the president\u2019s \u201cremarks yesterday have been twisted to suggest a meaning that was not intended; he regrets it if anyone hearing these remarks took offense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>How they were distorted, she did not say. The statement stresses that the president understands that \u201cthe men and women of coal country built this nation\u201d but that, yes, we must shut down the coal industry \u2014 as well as the oil and gas production. Biden is sorry that you\u2019re offended. \u201cOur goal as a nation is to combat climate change and increase our energy security by producing clean and efficient American energy,\u201d the statement falsely goes on to say. Wind and solar, both victims to vagaries of the weather, aren\u2019t, by any definition, \u201cefficient.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The kerfuffle, as with most debates over gas and oil, is confusing. The administration\u2019s stated goal \u2014 one of the major policy planks of the Democratic Party \u2014 is to deliberately, through mandates or bans or taxes or contrived \u201cmarkets,\u201d make fossil fuels prohibitively expensive to force a \u201ctransition.\u201d Biden\u2019s Plan for a Clean Energy Revolution and Environmental Justice <a href=\"https:\/\/joebiden.com\/climate-plan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">promises<\/a> that a 100 percent clean energy economy and net-zero emissions will exist no later than 2050. California has banned new gas-powered cars <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/08\/25\/california-bans-the-sale-of-new-gas-powered-cars-by-2035.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">by 2035<\/a>. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez\u2019s Green New Deal, supported by virtually every Democratic Party presidential candidate last time around, is far more extreme.<\/p>\n<p>In case there was any confusion, however, Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/davidblackmon\/2022\/11\/07\/biden-promises-no-more-drilling-just-days-after-demanding-more-drilling\/?sh=6ea023ad78e7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reiterated<\/a> his position at a rally for New York Gov. Kathy Hochul later this past weekend. Responding to a climate activist heckler, Biden shouted: \u201cNo more drilling. There is no more drilling! I haven\u2019t formed any new drilling.\u201d It\u2019s one of the few true things the president has said in a while. The Biden administration, even during historic spikes in gas prices, effectively <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/federal-oil-leases-slow-to-a-trickle-under-biden-11662230816\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">shut down<\/a> any new federal leases. Sure, the administration pressured OPEC+ to temporarily offer a reprieve before the election, but it has barely budged on domestic production. This is what Democrats have wanted for decades.<\/p>\n<p>None of these climate plans can be implemented without the effective nationalization of the energy sector and the banning of fossil fuels. Solar, after decades of mandates and subsidies and cronyism, accounts for around 3 percent of the national portfolio. Both wind and solar need to be propped up by fossil fuel generation. In anything resembling a functioning market, \u201cclean energy\u201d loses, not only to oil, gas, and coal, but also to nuclear power.<\/p>\n<p>This week, Biden will join his special presidential envoy for climate, John Kerry, in Egypt for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/environment-and-climate-change\/article-721640\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">biggest climate change event of the year<\/a>. In Sharm el-Sheikh, thousands of climate alarmists and technocrats will get together and brainstorm new ways to stop agricultural advances that have saved millions from hunger, or the proles from using their air conditioners. It is a movement that is working to gut modernity. It is also an unprecedented sabotage of the American economy. There is no historical parallel in which a government has intended to deindustrialize and make its citizens poorer. In good times, we can afford to humor the Malthusians, augmenting our energy portfolio with expensive, technologically inferior solar panels and antiquated windmills (rather than more gas and nuclear).  That is no longer the case.
