Margaret Croke recently introduced <a href=\"https:\/\/ilga.gov\/legislation\/102\/HB\/PDF\/10200HB5779lv.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">House Bill 5779<\/a>, a bill to legally secure a right \u201cto make autonomous decisions about one\u2019s own reproductive health, including the fundamental right to use or refuse reproductive health care.\u201d This bill <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/10\/25\/illinois-bill-would-allow-residents-to-manufacture-unlimited-embryos-and-destroy-them-all\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">seeks to codify<\/a> an individual right to rent wombs and manufacture children in artificial conditions, as well as to discard or hold in freezers an unlimited number of embryos.<\/p>\n<p>The bill would add to the state\u2019s new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mystateline.com\/news\/illinois-house-passes-reproductive-health-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">law<\/a> concerning \u201cthe fundamental right of an individual who becomes pregnant to continue the pregnancy and give birth to a child, or to have an abortion, and to make autonomous decisions about how to exercise that right.\u201d Croke is also a co-author of <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/04\/22\/illinois-law-attempts-to-redefine-infertility-to-force-insurance-to-pay-for-same-sex-couples-test-tube-babies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a previously introduced bill<\/a> that would force health insurance companies to subsidize surrogacy and other forms of assisted reproductive technology.<\/p>\n<p>Croke <a href=\"https:\/\/www.repcroke.com\/2022\/09\/06\/september-2022-newsletter\/\">highlighted<\/a> HB779 in her September newsletter immediately after announcing the birth of her daughter. While welcoming a new child into one\u2019s family is certainly a cause for celebration, it\u2019s hard to ignore the irony of juxtaposing a birth announcement with a bill that would legalize the killing of children.<\/p>\n<p>While bills like this often frame \u201creproductive health\u201d under the guise of protecting adults\u2019 \u201chuman rights,\u201d abortion and reproductive technologies are predicated on the violation of children\u2019s human rights. Such laws <a href=\"https:\/\/thembeforeus.com\/children-have-rights\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">violate children\u2019s rights<\/a> to life, to their mothers and fathers, and to not being diminished to products in the baby market.<\/p>\n<p> Buying and Selling Human Parts and Bodies <\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s fitting to link reproductive technology legislation with abortion legislation, as abortion and reproductive technologies are two sides of the same child-commodifying coin. If sex makes babies, and sexual autonomy is viewed as the ultimate good, then babies are the required sacrifice of sexual freedom.<\/p>\n<p>In both the baby-taking industry and the baby-making industry, children\u2019s rights are subject to adult fulfillment. When pregnancies are unwanted, abortion tells us that children can be forced out of existence even if it violates their right to life.<\/p>\n<p>If children are extremely wanted, reproductive technologies tell us that children can be forced into existence even if it violates their right to life and<a href=\"https:\/\/thembeforeus.com\/harvard-confirms-what-we-knew-to-be-true-commercial-separation-of-kids-from-their-parents-is-harmful\/#:~:text=Them%20Before%20Us%20concludes%20gamete%20donation%20is%20unethical%2C,essential%20developmental%20need%E2%80%94%20their%20biological%20mothers%20and%20fathers.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> right to their biological mothers and fathers through gamete donation<\/a>. In reality, children have rights that <a href=\"https:\/\/thembeforeus.com\/thats-not-a-queer-tax-thats-biology\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">need to be respected<\/a> and protected regardless of whether they are <em>unwanted<\/em> or <em>greatly wanted<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>As stated in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/about-us\/universal-declaration-of-human-rights\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Universal Declaration of Human Rights<\/a>, \u201cAll human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.\u201d Treating children as commodities to be designed, purchased, and disposed of when they don\u2019t meet adult \u201cstandards\u201d is an affront to their inherent value and worth. If we are all born equal, then we are all equally free.<\/p>\n<p> <strong>Eliminating Human Lives<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>Both the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifenews.com\/2022\/04\/26\/abortion-industry-makes-300-million-a-year-selling-abortion-pills\/\">abortion<\/a> and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.grandviewresearch.com\/press-release\/global-ivf-market\"> reproductive technologies<\/a> industries are multibillion-dollar businesses, profiting from the creation and elimination of millions of human beings. Contrary to what many think, in-vitro fertilization (IVF) is not simply about creating new life; it often involves sacrificing millions of little lives so adults can attempt to have<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Only an estimated 7 percent of lab-created children are born alive.
