Walsh, host of the hit documentary \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/get.dailywire.com\/wiaw\/subscribe?utm_campaign=wiaw&#038;utm_medium=paid&#038;utm_source=bing&#038;utm_content=na_subscriptions&#038;cid=wiaw&#038;mid=b&#038;xid=0&#038;utm_term=matt%20walsh%20what%20is%20a%20woman&#038;utm_campaign=&#038;utm_source=bing&#038;utm_medium=ppc&#038;hsa_acc=6411461344&#038;hsa_cam=429594023&#038;hsa_grp=1326012504412860&#038;hsa_ad=&#038;hsa_src=o&#038;hsa_tgt=kwd-82876595724471:aud-808681081:loc-190&#038;hsa_kw=matt%20walsh%20what%20is%20a%20woman&#038;hsa_mt=e&#038;hsa_net=adwords&#038;hsa_ver=3&#038;msclkid=89e4c372a04317e20078a01bc14044c4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">What Is Woman?<\/a>\u201d said he believes marriage is \u201cfundamentally a procreative male and female union.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s not really a compromise position there,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Rogan, who supports same-sex marriage, said he believes couples marry for other reasons besides procreation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s not a compromise in gay men that want to be married, love and want to formalize their bond so they can see their partner if there\u2019s a medical emergency or if there\u2019s a death where you assign assets to your loved one?\u201d Rogan asked.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/get.dailywire.com\/wiaw\/promo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CLICK HERE TO WATCH MATT WALSH\u2019S \u201cWHAT IS A WOMAN?\u201d<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The pair went back and forth as Rogan noted that the important thing about having conversations by people who have \u201cdiffering perspectives\u201d is to have a \u201ccivil conversation on why they believe what they believe,\u201d something he said that\u2019s \u201cso sadly uncommon in our culture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The podcaster also noted that these kinds of conversations are in fact \u201cdiscouraged\u201d today as they two continued to have a\u00a0revealing discussion about the purpose of marriage as it relates to the participants as well as what it means for society.<\/p>\n<p>Rogan\u2019s own definition of marriage was \u00a0\u201ca legal union between two people that love each other.\u201d But Walsh said marriage is both a union between two people and a public institution, and declared it is for society to sanction marriage for furtherance of the greater good.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf it was just personal, then we wouldn\u2019t even be having the conversation,\u201d Walsh said. \u201cBecause people are loving who ever they are loving. That\u2019s it there\u2019s no way to control that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The public good that marriages should serve, Walsh said, is supporting a foundation for strong families.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is something that is reserved for that because the male-female union has this capacity to create life, whereas no other union has that capacity,\u201d Walsh said. \u201cAnd so it is a different kind of thing. And it makes sense to call it something different.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Walsh posited a hypothetical in which survivors of a collapsed society awoke with amnesia and had to rebuild from scratch. If some \u201ccouplings\u201d emerged that were capable of creating life, they would be more important to the collective than those which were not.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSociety needs that,\u201d Walsh said. \u201cYou\u2019re going to keep society going cause you\u2019re creating people. And that\u2019s what marriage was.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rogan pressed, noting that gay couples can have children through surrogacy, and their efforts to raise them to be productive were important for society.\u00a0Walsh acknowledged at the point, but said such relationships are still different because \u201cthe union itself is not creating the child.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Walsh added his belief that children \u201cneed a mom and a dad.
