If a parent opposes her child\u2019s desire to pretend to be the opposite sex, courts increasingly treat that parent\u2019s rights as expendable. The sexual confusion of children overshadows parents\u2019 rights to remain in their children\u2019s lives as a potent force.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a courtroom down the hall, however, the rights of neglectful or drug-abusing parents are treated with kid gloves, under the theme of family preservation. Activist courts stand ready to protect your parental rights, but only when your narrative matches their own.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> \u2018I\u2019m God in this Case\u2019 <\/p>\n<p>Less than a year ago, Abigail Shrier shocked <a href=\"https:\/\/abigailshrier.substack.com\/p\/child-custodys-gender-gauntlet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">readers with her story<\/a> of a California judge who stripped a father of his parental rights because he showed insufficient support for performing\u00a0irreversible medical procedures on his sex-confused son.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>These cases are popping up <a href=\"https:\/\/thefdrlst.wpengine.com\/2018\/02\/20\/ohio-judge-strips-custody-parents-not-letting-daughter-taking-trans-hormones\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">all around the country<\/a>. Sexual ideology is becoming the governing factor in a child\u2019s placement, trumping the will and the voice of a parent.\u00a0In a state whose governor was elected on a parental rights platform, Virginia Del. Elizabeth Guzman brazenly <a href=\"https:\/\/wjla.com\/amp\/news\/crisis-in-the-classroom\/lgbtq-students-parents-schools-education-child-protective-services-felony-glenn-youngkin-jason-miyares-lesbian-gay-transgender-charges-virginia-sexual-orientation-gender-identity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">introduced a bill<\/a> that would charge a parent who fails to affirm a child\u2019s \u201csexual orientation or gender identity\u201d with a felony.\u00a0In California, Gov. Gavin Newsom recently <a href=\"https:\/\/chrisbray.substack.com\/p\/shocking-perverse-incentives-in-sb?utm_source=email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">signed legislation<\/a> that makes his state a \u201crefuge\u201d for trans-identifying minors who seek irreversible medical procedures.\u00a0<em>Just make it to the Golden State \u2026 and there is nothing your objecting parents can do.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>One case in the sleepy university town of Charlottesville, Virginia, provides some insight into how a parent can suddenly get framed as \u201cthe bad parent\u201d in a custody battle, merely for questioning a child\u2019s sexual confusion.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sarah Schultz told me she spent more than a half-million dollars trying to retain joint custody of her 15-year-old daughter who first claimed she was bisexual and then began to question her sex. Schultz pled for a \u201cwait and see\u201d approach and for the right to have an influence in her daughter\u2019s maturing adolescence.<\/p>\n<p>Despite Sarah\u2019s ex-husband\u2019s earlier fentanyl overdose, she says, a judge gave primary custody of the daughter to her dad, who permitted both bisexual and heterosexual sleepovers. In the past four years, Schultz has seen her daughter fewer than five times.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Schultz said the appointed guardian ad litem viewed her faith as a threat to her daughter\u2019s emerging sexuality.\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m God in this case,\u201d Schultz recalled her daughter\u2019s guardian ad litem saying.
