Shortly after taking the white flag, Gibbs accelerated into the back of Jones just as he was diving into Turn 1. I felt like we lost earlier at the spring race just in the same way.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-block full\">\n<div class=\"video-player youtube\">[embedded content]<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>O\u2019Donnell appeared on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio to address why NASCAR did not take any action against Ty Gibbs despite suspending Bubba Wallace for intentionally wrecking Kyle Larson at Las Vegas Motor Speedway just three weeks ago.<\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Donnell detailed, \u201cWhen you are at 165 miles per hour hooking someone into the wall for what was to us payback, that\u2019s very different than what we saw in terms of making a move racing for a win.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s not to say I agree with how that was executed by any means, but we\u2019re a contact sport, we\u2019ve said that, there\u2019s a very fine line in terms of how far do you go in officiating,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-block full\">\n<div class=\"video-player youtube\">[embedded content]<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"title\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boundingintosports.com\/2022\/10\/noah-gragson-encourages-brandon-jones-to-beat-up-ty-gibbs-after-he-wrecked-him-at-martinsville\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Noah Gragson Encourages Brandon Jones To Beat Up Ty Gibbs After He Wrecked Him At Martinsville<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Donnell continued, \u201cYou know, Pete, I heard you talk about short tracks. Maybe you didn\u2019t talk to the folks at Bowman Gray. A lot of tracks have things where you can\u2019t touch the leader. I don\u2019t think the fans would want us to go that route.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He then reiterated, \u201cCertainly didn\u2019t like what we saw Saturday in terms of how that win came about, but at the end of the day I think the drivers, it\u2019s in their hands.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is intent? It\u2019s very hard to judge. We did that with Bubba and Larson. We\u2019ll do the same thing prior to Phoenix. We\u2019ll look at that and whatever happens we\u2019ll have to make a call.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe drivers will understand where we\u2019re at in terms of what we expect on the racetrack and who\u2019s racing for a championship,\u201d he continued. \u201cAnd that\u2019s across the board. We do that every single time. No incident\u2019s the same. He had to go, gave a little bump, kept going, someone brake checked him and that car gets out of line and oh my gosh we\u2019re talking about something different,\u201d he tried to deflect.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo it\u2019s really hard to judge the intent,\u201d he repeated. \u201cWe have a lot of tools where we can do that with the SMT data and everything. I think we all saw what we saw Saturday. This is abundantly clear when he admits that he does not think what Ty did was right when he says, \u201cCertainly didn\u2019t like what we saw Saturday in terms of how that win came about.\u201d But also claimed he didn\u2019t want to interfere as an official.<\/p>\n<p>Even worse is that he claims it\u2019s in the driver\u2019s hands. It was certainly in Ty Gibbs\u2019 hands as he wrecked Brandon Jones. However, it wasn\u2019t in Jones\u2019 hands. It\u2019s the same rule they used to punish William Byron and amended after their punishment of Byron was reversed to just fine him a larger instead of hitting him with a fine and a point deduction.<\/p>\n<p>The rule before it was amended read, \u201cMember actions that could result in a 25-50 driver and Team Owner Points and\/or $50,000-$100,000 fine and\/or one Race suspension, indefinite suspension, or terminate: intentionally wrecking another vehicle, whether or not that vehicle is removed from Competition as a result.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6235\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6235\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6235\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Bob-Pockrass1-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"394\" height=\"849\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Bob-Pockrass1-1.png 394w, https:\/\/www.boundingintosports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Bob-Pockrass1-1-139x300.png 139w\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6235\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bob Pockrass Twitter<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>By not punishing Ty Gibbs for this behavior, NASCAR is telling everyone that they can and should wreck people in order to win races. If that\u2019s the case, and the drivers do indeed get that message it\u2019s not hard to imagine NASCAR devolving into a demolition derby rather than the sport of racing.<\/p>\n<p>So while NASCAR claims not punishing Ty Gibbs is a fine line is a giant load of crap, what is a fine line is NASCAR turning their sport into a demolition derby.<\/p>\n<p>As O\u2019Donnell said, we all saw what happened and what happened was Ty Gibbs intentionally wrecking Brandon Jones after the white flag was thrown in order to win the race.
