All Rights Reserved.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Gore\u2019s comments came as part of an interview with the YouTube channel Film Courage, where he was asked, \u201cWhat do you love about Disney live action remakes?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He responded, \u201cI don\u2019t love anything about Disney live action remakes. Films like <em>Pinocchio<\/em>, <em>Beauty and the Beast,<\/em> and what not. All Rights Reserved.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Hen then directed his ire towards <em>Pinocchio<\/em>, \u201c<em>Pinocchio<\/em> in particular was one that had me specifically angry because it was, first of all, embarrassing at how bad the film was. It\u2019s everything wrong. You\u2019re taking the design of the original Pinocchio and rendering it in computer animation and it\u2019s the exact same design.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou get Tom Hanks to play Geppetto. All Rights Reserved.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>After briefly discussing how 2D animation can be used to broach divisive subjects easier compared to live action, Gore returned to shredding the live action Disney films saying, \u201cThe live action Disney films are just a travesty and sort of represent everything wrong with modern movies today. Everything wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust the updating it for modern audiences with unnecessary gender and race swaps that I think that audiences are beginning to tire of. The live action doesn\u2019t really work. There\u2019s certain concepts and ideas that work best in animation. Perhaps that\u2019s why the <em>Jungle Book<\/em> is probably the one that stands out as the most watchable and probably the best of them because it is all animated. We know too. In the clamshell VHS casing you can find the sequels to all the classic Disney animated features. And they\u2019re all completely forgettable and I wish they never existed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I would say the same for all of these Disney live action films. Is literally an attorney saying just do it. It\u2019s disappointing to see people like Robert Zemeckis who on a short list of perfect films made <em>Back to the Future<\/em> and then to see Tom Hanks, probably the most beloved actor, you could still call him a star, for them to team up with Disney to make it is horrific. He obliged providing the context, \u201cWell, Pinocchio is skipping his way to school. He\u2019s distracted and happens upon a pile of feces. It\u2019s a completely unnecessary thing to happen in the midst of the live action remake of the classic Pinocchio, to put in this pile of feces.<\/p>\n<p>He continued, \u201cBut I do believe that was a not so secret message that the animators decided to add. Why would they do this otherwise? There\u2019s no point in it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Gore goes on to declare, \u201cThe pile of feces in the live-action Pinocchio is the most likable character. He concedes, \u201cSure, it makes financial sense to remake classic and familiar intellectual property into another form animation to live action. That makes total sense on paper. I think these films are completely creatively bankrupt and forgettable. And it\u2019s unfortunate that audiences would not be more discriminating when it comes to these movies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just don\u2019t think that we\u2019re going to be talking about any of these live action Disney remakes far into the future. That could also be a reason for the success. And also I kind of find it \u2014 there\u2019s always a movie and this is in particular around the holidays, usually Thanksgiving or Christmas and whatnot \u2014 there\u2019s a movie that offends no one, is not interesting, completely forgettable, but it\u2019s the only movie that the entire family can agree that we can all go see together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He elaborated, \u201cThat\u2019s why you see movies opening on Christmas day. That is a thing. A number of them haven\u2019t even made it to the box office being relegated to the Disney+ streaming service like <em>Pinocchio<\/em> and <em>Lady and the Tramp<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spoilertv.com\/2020\/11\/weekly-nielsen-streaming-charts-updated.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According to Nielsen<\/a>, <em>Pinocchio\u00a0<\/em>only brought in 930 million minutes viewed the week it premiered. In its second week, that number declined to 510 million minutes viewed. <em>Lady and the Tramp<\/em> never even made it on to the Nielsen charts when it debuted in November 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Both films also have rotten ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. Pinocchio has an abysmal 29% Audience Score while Lady and the Tramp has a 50% Audience Score. Mulan doesn\u2019t fare any better.
