(Joshua Roberts\/Reuters)<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s a lovely guy, very popular and nice,\u201d she said. \u201cI can\u2019t imagine anyone having animosity towards Paul Pelosi.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The neighbor, who was out for a walk, said he knew \u201cjust what everybody else knows.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other neighbors declined to comment.<\/p>\n<p>Questions remain about the lack of an alarm or security at the Pelosi home at the time of the attack. Cameras are visible at the front and side of the brick residence from the street.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) in Washington actively monitors the speaker\u2019s home only when she is there, according to a statement by USCP issued on Nov. 2 after questions arose about the cameras.<\/p>\n<p>The speaker was in Washington on the morning of the attack. The cameras at her home \u201cwere not actively monitored as they are when the Speaker is at the residence,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Command Center personnel noticed the police activity on the screen and used the feeds to monitor the response and assist investigators.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marjorie Campbell, a former neighbor of the Pelosis for 10 years, told the Daily Mail she recalled fleets of black SUVs surrounding the house around the clock when she stayed there.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone in the neighborhood has alarms on their windows, and if glass were smashed, an alarm would sound, she told the publication. Campbell recalled her computers getting scrambled by alleged security measures to protect the congresswoman.<\/p>\n<p>Nancy Pelosi was at her Pacific Heights home, the site of the attack, on Nov. 2 while several dark SUVs were parked outside. (Michael Short\/San Francisco Chronicle via AP)<\/figure>\n<p>According to San Francisco Assistant District Attorney Allison Garbutt Macbeth, DePape smashed his body through a window to break into the Pelosis\u2019 home while carrying a hammer and several plastic zip ties. After breaking in, he allegedly confronted Paul Pelosi at his bedside at around 2 a.m. and began asking for the whereabouts of the congresswoman.<\/p>\n<p>According to court documents filed on Nov. 1 by the office of San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins, DePape was on a \u201csuicide mission.\u201d The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2022\/11\/01\/us\/david-de-pape-motion-to-detain.html\">court filing<\/a> was first obtained by The New York Times.<\/p>\n<p>DePape was ordered held without bail. His next court hearing is scheduled for Nov. 4.<\/p>\n<p>The defendant allegedly forced his way into the Pelosi home, intending to take the person second-in-line to the presidency of the United States as a hostage and seriously harm her.<\/p>\n<p>Although the speaker wasn\u2019t home, the defendant \u201ccontinued on his quest and would not be stopped, culminating in the near-fatal attack on Mr. Pelosi,\u201d the court filing said.<\/p>\n<p>DePape told medics and officers at the scene that he was \u201csick of the insane [expletive] level of lies coming out of Washington, D.C.,\u201d according to the court filing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t really want to hurt him, but you know this was a suicide mission,\u201d DePape allegedly said. \u201cI\u2019m not going to stand here and do nothing even if it cost me my life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>DePape allegedly \u201cnamed several targets,\u201d including a local professor, prominent state and federal politicians, and their relatives.<\/p>\n<p>The defendant allegedly told the police he intended to hold the speaker hostage, interrogate her, and \u201cbreak her kneecaps\u201d if she lied to him.<\/p>\n<p>DePape allegedly said, \u201cthey are all corrupt\u201d and \u201cwe\u2019ve got to take them all out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Paul Pelosi reportedly called 911 from a bathroom. But before the police arrived, he \u201creached out and put his hand\u201d on the hammer.<\/p>\n<p>Two police officers arrived and saw that the men each had a hand on the hammer.
