Hobbs hopes to replace Ducey who is term-limited but is currently trailing Republican\u00a0Kari Lake in the latest polls.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/arizona-gov-candidate-katie-hobbs-child-therapist-husband-had-10-year-old-trans-patient-lawsuit-says\">The Daily Wire<\/a>, Hobbs\u2019 husband Patrick Goodman is a psychiatrist at Phoenix Children\u2019s Hospital and specializes \u201cin serving youth and families affected by trauma and grief.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Documents obtained by the outlet\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.phoenixchildrens.org\/files\/inline-files\/16Gender-Support.pdf\">list<\/a>\u00a0Goodman as a provider in the hospital\u2019s \u201cgender support program\u201d serving \u201cgender diverse\u201d and transgender youth.<\/p>\n<p>The hospital\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.phoenixchildrens.org\/gendersupport\">website<\/a>\u00a0states that\u00a0Goodman takes a gender-affirming approach to the treatment of children diagnosed with gender dysphoria or who identify as a sex different from their biological sex.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery child has a different way of expressing gender and some may express themselves in ways that are different from what we expect. Many gender-expansive children are comfortable with the sex they were assigned at birth. However, there are times when a child may assert a gender identity that is different from, or not consistent with, the sex they were assigned at birth. They may also say they\u2019re not comfortable with their physical sex characteristics,&#8221; the hospital&#8217;s site reads.<\/p>\n<p>Phoenix Children\u2019s lists three categories of gender-confused youth. Gender-questioning youth who \u201care exploring and discovering their gender identities,\u201d gender-expansive youth who \u201cexpress a wider, more flexible range of gender identity and\/or expression than typically associated with their sex assigned at birth,\u201d and transgender youth \u201cchildren and youth whose gender identity is different from their sex assigned at birth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The hospital was indirectly involved in a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/18606032\/trujillo-v-christ\/\">lawsuit<\/a>\u00a0brought against Arizona on behalf of three transgender children in 2020 when the children\u2019s guardians sued the state to change the birth certificate of each child to reflect the gender they now identified as, rather than their sex at birth. People are allowed to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/story\/news\/local\/arizona\/2020\/11\/10\/lawsuit-filed-az-department-of-health-services-allow-transgender-people-change-sex-birth-certificate\/5985059002\/\">change<\/a>\u00a0their birth certificates in Arizona only after undergoing a sex change operation.<\/p>\n<p>Goodman was named as a therapist to a 10-year-old trans-identified girl involved in the lawsuit, identified in court documents only as Jane Doe.<\/p>\n<p>The documents obtained by the outlet stated that Goodman was identified as a potential witness in the case and was expected to testify regarding the child\u2019s treatment in relation to Jane Doe\u2019s request for a preliminary injunction to force the state to change the child\u2019s birth certificate before the start of the school year.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.azd.1253623\/gov.uscourts.azd.1253623.1.0.pdf\">court documents<\/a>, Goodman\u2019s patient began \u201cexpressing\u201d as a girl at \u201ctwo-and-a-half years old.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJane\u2019s parents initially thought this was a phase, but Jane persisted. Eventually, they brought her to a child psychologist specializing in care for young children with some prior experience with transgender youth, Dr. Beth Onufrak. Dr. Onufrak evaluated Jane over several sessions and concluded that Jane would meet the diagnostic criteria for gender dysphoria.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The court filing\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/604935626\/Roe-v-Herrington?secret_password=dWLyXvvWxYnOBUX3KBDz\">stated<\/a>, \u201cPatrick Goodman is a therapist at Phoenix Children\u2019s Hospital and Jane Doe\u2019s mental health provider. He is expected to testify regarding his mental health treatment of Jane Doe\u2019s gender dysphoria and opinion regarding Jane\u2019s health and well-being absent injunctive relief.\u201d The case is still ongoing and it is unclear if Goodman has testified yet.<\/p>\n<p>According to court documents obtained by the Daily Wire, before Doe began second grade, Doe\u2019s parents requested that the school allow their child to attend as a girl, which the institution agreed to, however, the child was bullied and teased. After several years, Doe\u2019s parents attempted to enroll their child in a new school, but the new institution would not \u201c\u2026enroll Jane as female without a corrected birth certificate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Due to Doe\u2019s age, the parents did not seek medical treatment and under the legislation that Ducey signed into law this year, Doe cannot legally have sex-reassignment surgery until 18.<\/p>\n<p>According to the lawsuit, \u201cWithout a corrected birth certificate, Jane will be required to reveal that she is transgender to this new school. That will prevent her from safely moving to another school where she is free from pervasive harassment and bullying that prevent her from learning and cause her further significant emotional harm.
