There\u2019s still significant fear of betraying the woke mindset in public.<\/p>\n<p>The reporters chatted with more than 24 anonymous insiders \u2014 \u201ctop studio executives, agents, activists, marketers and producers\u201d \u2014 to learn how things have changed since 2017.\u00a0And, to the paper\u2019s shock, how a return to \u201cnormal\u201d may be coming soon.<\/p>\n<p>The far-Left Times frames the changes as a regression.\u00a0The real story? Woke doesn\u2019t pay the bills or keep the lights on.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/woke-broke-movies-2019\/\"><strong>RELATED: WOKE BROKE MOVIES: DOES HOLLYWOOD CARE?<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve already learned this via Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery. The powerhouse companies have been canceling woke content and tightening their belts during the Biden recession.<\/p>\n<p>Netflix ditched a project spearheaded by <a href=\"https:\/\/okmagazine.com\/p\/meghan-markle-backlash-hate-professional-victim\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">professional victim Meghan Markle<\/a>\u00a0and anti-racist author Ibram X. Kendi. Warner Bros. Discovery famously bailed on \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/woke-hollywood-biden-recession\/\">Batgirl<\/a>,\u201d another uber-woke project considered so inferior the company swallowed the project\u2019s $90-plus million price tag.<\/p>\n<p>The New York Times expose shares far more of what\u2019s happening behind the scenes.<\/p>\n<p>One film executive cops to hiring nothing but women and people of color in recent years. That executive admits some of those employees weren\u2019t up to the tasks at hand.<\/p>\n<p>Others worried the woke makeover embraced by Hollywood, Inc. was a financial failure.<\/p>\n<p>They point to terrible ticket sales for films like \u201cBros,\u201d the first gay rom-com from a major studio, and \u201cEaster Sunday,\u201d a comedy positioned as a watershed moment for Filipino representation. \u201cMs. Marvel,\u201d a critically adored Disney+ series about a teenage Muslim superhero, was lightly viewed, according to Nielsen\u2019s measurements.<\/p>\n<p>The list of woke flops is considerable. Think:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cCharlie\u2019s Angels\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cBooksmart\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cTerminator: Dark Fate\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cParty of Five\u201d (reboot)<\/li>\n<li>\u201cEternals\u201d\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>\u201cBirds of Prey\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cLightyear\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cGhostbusters\u201d (2016)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Insiders add it didn\u2019t help that Time\u2019s Up, the organization championed by Hollywood\u2019s brightest stars to prevent sexual abuse, imploded following a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/times-up-celebrities-cuomo-scandal\/\">series of monumental missteps.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The group:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ignored serious allegations against then-Democrat Presidential candidate Joe Biden<\/li>\n<li>Counseled Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat, on how to deal with serial allegations of sexual misconduct<\/li>\n<li>Looked past other Democrats accused of sexual abuse, like Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Reality has set in, and \u201cAladdin\u201d producer Dan Lin says woke \u201coptics\u201d are getting the heave-ho.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA recession is coming, budgets are tightening and I\u2019m really worried that diversity is going to be the first thing that goes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/1637580991\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>RELATED: \u2018VIRTUE BOMBS: HOW HOLLYWOOD GOT WOKE AND LOST ITS SOUL<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The story also notes that MeToo targets like Johnny Depp, John Lassiter of Pixar fame and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/james-franco-fidel-castro-casting\/\">James Franco<\/a> are finding new gigs after sitting in time out for a spell.<\/p>\n<p>It gets worse for the \u201cenlightened\u201d Hollywood eco-system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a risk that \u201cgo woke, go broke\u201d jokes could calcify into conventional Hollywood wisdom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>America has no problem with diversity. It lines up for the racially diverse \u201cFast &#038; Furious\u201d franchise. The upcoming \u201cBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever\u201d is on track to earn up to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/scottmendelson\/2022\/10\/20\/box-office-black-panther-wakanda-forever-aims-for-record-175-million-plus-debut\/?sh=536c6db40b7c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> $175 million on its opening weekend.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Forced diversity, mid-film lectures and an emphasis on finger-wagging over narrative are anathema to modern audiences.
