Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) in a dead heat with Republican challenger Tom Barrett. The new poll from <a href=\"https:\/\/mirs-uploads.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com\/4605-Mitchell%20-%20MIRS%20Press%20Release%20CD%207%20Poll%2011-3-22_.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mitchell Research\/MIRS<\/a> suggests a huge drop in support for Slotkin in recent weeks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe conducted a small sample survey (N=283) in the 7th Congressional District three weeks ago that showed Slotkin leading by 11 percent (53%-42%). However, as we are seeing nationwide and within Michigan, there seems to be a late last minute surge to Republican candidates,\u201d Steve Mitchell, president of Mitchell Research, said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/mirs-uploads.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com\/4605-Mitchell%20-%20MIRS%20Press%20Release%20CD%207%20Poll%2011-3-22_.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Slotkin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/epolls\/2022\/house\/mi\/michigan_7th_district_barrett_vs_slotkin-7902.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">led<\/a> by as many as 18 points, according to a September poll, before her lead was cut to six points in a poll conducted a month later; Cook Political Report has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cookpolitical.com\/ratings\/house-race-ratings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rated<\/a> the race a toss up.\u00a0Michigan will be a closely-watched state on Tuesday as Republicans look to flip multiple House seats and vote first-term Democratic Governor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/whitmer-says-small-businesses-have-her-support-these-small-business-owners-havent-forgotten-her-shutdowns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gretchen Whitmer<\/a> out of office. The Mitchell Research poll also showed the Republican gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon slightly leading Whitmer among voters in the 7th district.<\/p>\n<p>The most recent survey of the House race was conducted the day after Cheney <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/first-time-im-campaigning-for-a-democrat-liz-cheney-hits-the-trail-in-michigan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">traveled<\/a> to the Great Lakes State to speak at a campaign event in support of the Michigan Democrat. Cheney focused her speech on restoring a republic she believes has been damaged by many in the Republican Party.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we want to ensure this revival of our republic, we have to walk away from politics as usual,\u201d the Republican told a crowd of 500, according to the Detroit News, adding. \u201cIf the people in our party are not doing the job they need to do, then we\u2019re going to vote for the people in the other party.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Slotkin rehashed Cheney\u2019s concern for the state of American politics, saying that the biggest issue the two agree on is \u201cpreserving American democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Democrat\u2019s GOP opponent Barrett railed against Cheney and Slotkin, calling them \u201cwar-hawks.\u201d Barrett was endorsed by Harriet Hageman who defeated Cheney in Wyoming\u2019s Republican primary in August.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople are sick and tired of these establishment forces hanging together, no matter what,\u201d Barrett said. \u201cThe phony idea that Elissa Slotkin and Liz Cheney are now part of some non-partisan coalition together \u2013 the only thing they brought us is the misery we\u2019re all feeling right now.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A campaign stump from Rep.
