Schumer claimed that Democrats had overcome the pre-summer electoral environment and were closing the gap in key swing states, citing the fact that Democrats have branded their Republican opponents as extreme while touting their own accomplishments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s tight,\u201d Schumer told the AP. \u201cI believe Democrats will hold the Senate and maybe even pick up seats.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-64 p Component-p-0-2-55\">Schumer was cautious about races in several battleground states, but said that Democrats were within striking distance of Republicans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-64 p Component-p-0-2-55\">\u201cI don\u2019t want to give the illusion that these are all slam dunks,\u201d Schumer said, but \u201c[t]he fact that we\u2019re in the ballpark and our Democratic candidates are defying the political environment is a testament to a few things,\u201d he said. \u201c[Voters] are seeing how extreme these Republican candidates are and they don\u2019t like it. And second, they\u2019re seeing the Democrats are talking to them on issues they care about, and that we\u2019ve accomplished a great deal on things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/the-red-wave-narrative-was-bull-legacy-journalists-attack-polls-favoring-gop-after-one-poll-shows-dems-ahead-in-swing-states\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Legacy media journalists<\/a> and Democratic activists have attacked polling in recent days, spinning a narrative that Republicans are inundating the public with polls favoring Republicans to spin their own narrative of a coming red wave.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you get past those headlines and dig a little deeper, you would uncover an insidious and seemingly intentional campaign from Republican-backed polling firms to flood the zone and tip the balance of polling averages in favor of their candidates, to create a narrative that Republicans are surging and that a red wave is imminent and inevitable,\u201d MSNBC host <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/video\/2022\/11\/01\/msnbcs_joy_reid_republicans_are_trying_to_flood_the_zone_with_junk_polls_to_make_a_red_wave_look_inevitable.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joy Reid<\/a> said in a monologue on her show \u201cThe ReidOut\u201d Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost of the polling over the last few weeks is coming from partisan outfits \u2014 usually Republican \u2014 or auto-dial firms,\u201d New York Times pollster <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/10\/31\/upshot\/midterms-polls-senate-nyt.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nate Cohn<\/a> claimed in an editorial touting his own polling. \u201cThese polls are cheap enough to flood the zone, and many of them were emboldened by the 2020 election, when their final results came close to the election results even as other pollsters struggled.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Journalists lit up Twitter on Monday evening after The New York Times and Siena College released a spate of polls showing Democrats in the lead in four hotly-contested Senate races. The journalists seized on the polls in an effort to debunk a \u201cnarrative\u201d that Republicans\u2019 lead in recent generic ballot polling would help carry Republicans in Arizona, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Georgia across the finish line.<\/p>\n<p>The polls, conducted by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2022\/10\/31\/upshot\/senate-polls-az-ga-nv-pa-toplines.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYT\/Siena<\/a>, found that Democrats led in Arizona, Pennsylvania, and Georgia. In Arizona, incumbent Democrat Mark Kelly held a six-point lead over Republican Blake Masters, 51%-45%; in Georgia, incumbent Democrat Raphael Warnock held a three-point lead over Republican challenger Herschel Walker, 49%-46%; in Pennsylvania, Democrat John Fetterman led Republican Dr. Mehmet Oz by five points, 49%-44%.
