He needs to be off the air. He\u2019s an embarrassment.\u2019 And I was like, \u2018Embarrassment? I got cancer.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t talk about it because I didn\u2019t want pity,\u201d Bradshaw said on NBC\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.today.com\/health\/exclusive-terry-bradshaw-waited-year-publicly-share-cancer-diagnoses-rcna55132\">Today<\/a>. \u201cI didn\u2019t talk about it because a lot of celebrities \u2014\u00a0unfortunately, I\u2019m one of those \u2014\u00a0when they say this, I think the perception around America with all the millions of people is, \u2018Aw, look at him. Bless his heart. He has cancer. Well, my husband died of cancer! My kids are\u2026\u2019 I didn\u2019t want that. It took a long time before I told my family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wasn\u2019t scared,\u201d Bradshaw told NBC\u2019s Harry Smith of the initial diagnosis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReally?\u201d Smith reacted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo. You know what, Harry? I don\u2019t know why; I never was scared,\u201d Bradshaw replied.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, you\u2019re Terry Bradshaw. You\u2019re bigger than life,\u201d Smith told him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, cancer didn\u2019t think so,\u201d Bradshaw laughed. \u201cI don\u2019t think cancer cares. Listen, cancer shows no favoritism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bradshaw threw what is probably the most <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=H1l5aTUK228\">famous and unforgettable pass<\/a> in pro football history, the \u201cImmaculate Reception,\u201d which was called the \u201cmiracle of all miracles\u201d by famed announcer Curt Gowdy and led to the beginning of the Pittsburgh Steeler dynasty.<\/p>\n<p>Bradshaw cited his Christian faith as the source for his strength in dealing with the disease, declaring, \u201cAs a man of faith, as a Christian, my attitude was, well, if I go, I\u2019m okay. If I stay, I\u2019m okay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He had been treated for his bladder cancer, first diagnosed in November 2021, and was pronounced clear of it before he began experiencing \u201cnerve pain in my neck and my shoulder.\u201d He recalled thinking, \u201cI have injured my neck before, so this is not uncommon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A tumor was discovered that required removal; Bradshaw admitted that he initially kept his cancer secret from his family. But he praised his wife, saying, \u201cI can\u2019t put into words how thankful I am for her. Seriously. I can\u2019t imagine not holding her hand when we take off on a plane or when we land\u00a0or when we snuggle up when we\u2019re in bed together.
