Photo courtesy of Marvel Studios. \u00a9 2022 MARVEL.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>In a recently released clip for the upcoming film, the character that Marvel Studios is marketing as Namor tells Letitia Wright\u2019s Shuri, \u201cMy enemies call me Namor.\u201d Actor Tenoch Huerta pronounces the word, \u201cNah-more\u201d instead of how it is traditionally pronounced as \u201cNeigh-more.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-block full\">\n<div class=\"video-player youtube\">[embedded content]<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"cb-post-title\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/boundingintocomics.com\/2022\/11\/01\/black-panther-wakanda-forever-producer-claims-namor-is-the-voice-of-the-colonized\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u2018Black Panther: Wakanda Forever\u2019 Producer Claims Namor \u201cIs The Voice Of The Colonized\u201d<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Producer Nate Moore explained the decision to change the character\u2019s pronunciation in an interview with Phase Zero.<\/p>\n<p>He noted, \u201cNamor, I would say, he\u2019s obviously given that name also by someone in the film so it\u2019s not even something that it is from him. But there is certainly a way that a Spanish speaker or even a Mayan speaker would say Namor versus a way that an English speaker or somebody who is a little bit more Western in slant might say Namor. And we thought that was just interesting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s reality that people face and it felt more genuine than having everybody to pronounce it correctly, to be quite honest,\u201d Moore elaborated.<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-block full\">\n<div class=\"video-player youtube\">[embedded content]<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Moore\u2019s explanation along with the clip also reveals the film is changing how Namor receives his name. El ni\u00f1o que creci\u00f3 sin amor. Namor.\u201d That roughly translates to \u201cThis is why he\u2019s called Namor. His mother, Princess Fen, clearly loved him dearly. Not only did his mother love him, but he also drew the attention of the Atlantean who would become his primary love interest, Dorma.<\/p>\n<p>The Saga of the Sub-Mariner #2 reveals, \u201cHow often back then, other eyes must have watched me\u2026their tears mingling with the salty sea, as I cavorted with Byrraah, Merrano\u2013and now even a girl-cousin. Poor Dorma. In Marvel Comics #1 it\u2019s revealed that Princess Fen fell in love with the unnamed naval commander that would later be revealed to be Leonard McKenzie. He\u2019s from a civilization called Talokan instead. His character design doesn\u2019t even resemble Namor from the comics. His mother doesn\u2019t give him his name, instead his enemies do, whoever they are.
