COLA adjustments have been automatically done every year for decades due to federal law, and the adjustments are not contingent on any of the Biden administration\u2019s policies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe point was incomplete,\u201d a White House official told The Epoch Times via email.<\/p>\n<p>The White House said the complete point was outlined in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2022\/10\/12\/statement-from-press-secretary-karine-jean-pierre-on-social-security\/\">a recent statement<\/a> from press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4837230\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/deleye1213123.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy size-medium wp-image-4837230\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/themes\/eet\/images\/white.png\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/deleye1213123.jpg\" alt=\"Epoch Times Photo\" width=\"600\" height=\"354\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4837230\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/deleye1213123.jpg\" alt=\"Epoch Times Photo\" width=\"600\" height=\"354\" \/><\/noscript><\/figcaption><\/a> The White House deleted a Twitter post about Social Security on Nov. 2., 2022, after Twitter added context. (Twitter screenshot via The Epoch Times)<\/figure>\n<p>CNN\u2019s fact-checker Daniel Dale, in response, accused the White House of making an inaccurate claim.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s quite the spin,\u201d Dale wrote, adding, \u201cThe size of Social Security checks is linked, by law, to inflation. This year\u2019s increase is unusually big because the inflation rate is unusually big.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Twitter then added \u201ccontext\u201d under the White House post, writing that seniors will get a \u201clarge Social Security benefit increase due to the annual cost of living adjustment, which is based on the inflation rate\u201d before linking to the Social Security Administration\u2019s website.<\/p>\n<p>The Twitter addition also made reference to former President Richard Nixon\u2019s signing a law that mandated\u00a0automatic benefit adjustments tied to the consumer price index, a key metric that measures inflation. For September 2022, the index surged to 8.2 percent year-over-year, according to data released by the Department of Labor.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/social-security-announces-biggest-payment-hike-in-40-years-heres-when-youll-get-it_4792404.html\">On Oct. 13<\/a>, the Social Security Administration <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/4-things-to-know-about-highest-social-security-cost-of-living-increase-in-decades_4797155.html\">increased<\/a> the COLA by 8.7 percent due to decades-high inflation. Checks that are scheduled to go out in January 2023 will see the COLA increase.<\/p>\n<p>It comes as Biden discussed inflation and Social Security during a gaffe-filled speech on Wednesday. Ahead of the midterm elections next week, Biden and Democrats have repeatedly claimed that Republicans would gut Medicare and Social Security if they take control of Congress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd on my watch, for the first time in 10 years, seniors are getting an increase in their Social Security checks,\u201d Biden said Wednesday. \u201cSo, checks are going to be up and Medicare payments are going to be down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Republican lawmakers were quick to criticize the White House for the erroneous Twitter post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNext year\u2019s Social Security increase will be one of the largest in decades b\/c of Biden\u2019s disastrous policies, which have caused prices to rise, fueled record inflation, &#038; cut it into critical retirement savings,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepTenney\/status\/1587639690471038979?s=20&#038;t=gVBQ8hf9LMeHLDDVES9OMg\">wrote<\/a> Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-N.Y.) on Twitter in response to the Twitter post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBiden social media geniuses are giving Biden credit for the biggest Social Security COLA in 10 years, but neglect to mention that SS COLA is an automatic formula based on government inflation metric (CPI),\u201d Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepThomasMassie\/status\/1587790124045279233\">added<\/a> on the platform.<\/p>\n<h2>COLA Increase<\/h2>\n<p>In the mid-October announcement, the Social Security Administration\u2019s head,\u00a0Kilolo Kijakazi, said that the benefits may \u201cgive seniors more peace of mind and breathing room,\u201d although policy analysts say that the COLA increase might force some seniors to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/inflation-could-hit-social-security-beneficiaries-twice-analyst_4607752.html\">pay more in taxes<\/a>\u2014in addition to surging inflation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWill the COLA be enough to keep up with inflation?
