On several occasions, we\u2019ve asked for a roster of residents living in the basement and have been told that the request couldn\u2019t be accommodated because it would be a \u2018student privacy violation,\u2019\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/stanforddaily.com\/2022\/10\/28\/imposter-student-caught-removed-from-crothers-hall\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to<\/a> a message from a residence staff member.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWithout such a roster, we ultimately can\u2019t verify who should and shouldn\u2019t be in the dorm. This is a policy we have pushed back against and will continue to push back against,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, Curry was often seen carrying a Stanford backpack and said he was a member of the track team. However, others claimed that Curry had said he was a pre-med student at the university.<\/p>\n<p>An Instagram <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/williamcurry_\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">account<\/a>\u00a0reportedly associated with Curry lists him as \u201cStanford 25\u2019| Birmingham | @cokescholars.\u201d The Coke Scholars handle apparently referred to the school\u2019s Coca-Cola scholars program, of which he was not a member.<\/p>\n<p>Curry reportedly told some people he was a transfer student from Duke University. He also had a Tinder account that listed him as a 20-year-old pre-med student at Stanford, with pictures of him involved in various student activities. His \u201cAbout Me\u201d section again noted him as \u201cStanford 25.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Stanford Daily <a href=\"https:\/\/stanforddaily.com\/2022\/10\/31\/stanford-knew-about-the-campus-imposter-for-a-year-he-kept-coming-back\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> that the school\u2019s public safety department had been made aware of Curry\u2019s squatting in December. Curry has reportedly been removed from the campus on multiple occasions yet continued to find ways to live in various dorms.<\/p>\n<p>Curry was caught last Thursday living in a location on campus only about 1,000 feet from the first location where he had been spotted squatting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt seemed that he was a friend of the football players. So, anytime we saw him we let him in because it was like he knew people,\u201d one student told the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>Stanford spokeswoman Dee Mostofi said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksbw.com\/article\/pretend-stanford-student-lived-in-dorms-for-10-months\/41838030#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> that Curry\u2019s \u201cpersistence and ability to ingratiate himself with our student community has made it clear that gaps exist in those protocols.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some staff had been previously informed of Curry\u2019s situation, but \u201cthere were no broad communications about him to all Stanford residences,\u201d Mostofi added.<\/p>\n<p>The university is reportedly reviewing its procedures to prevent similar incidents in the future.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A man posing as a student lived on Stanford University\u2019s Palo Alto, California, campus for nearly a year, according to a new report.
