Yet the pain and suffering that come with destroying unborn life are real \u2014 for all parties involved, including men. Enter country band Wilder Blue\u2019s song \u201cDixie Darlin\u2019,\u201d a beautiful ballad that gives a rare insight into the often-overlooked father\u2019s perspective on abortion.\u00a0<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>Dixie in \u201cDixie Darlin\u2019\u201d is commitment-averse, thirsting for experience, and likely suffering from a fear of missing out. She resists staying in one place and settling down with the man who loves her.\u00a0Wilder Blue\u2019s main vocalist, Zane Williams, acts as the song\u2019s narrator, looking back at a tragic love affair with Dixie. The narrator is always there for Dixie, but as soon as she\u2019s in his arms, Dixie quickly hits the road. \u201cShe heard the highway callin\u2019 with the meltin\u2019 of the snow,\u201d sings Williams. \u201cI tried to change her mind,\u201d he croons, but it\u2019s always to no avail and Dixie leaves him again and again.<\/p>\n<p>The artist reveals that after Dixie\u2019s father died, \u201cShe asked if I would hold her.\u201d Despite Dixie\u2019s habit of leaving, Dixie\u2019s lover was there for her when she needed him and \u201cheld her all that week.\u201d Love, stability, and emotional support were not enough for Dixie, and after that week she \u201cloaded up her saddle,\u201d sings Williams, \u201cand she kissed me on the cheek.\u201d Again, Dixie\u2019s lover \u201ctried to change her mind,\u201d but Dixie headed out the door.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A short while later, Dixie calls her lover with devastating news:<\/p>\n<p><em>Dixie called me late one night on Colorado time<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Told me she was two weeks late and she knew it must be mine<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I wanted to raise a family right here in this little town<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>But in the end, she wasn\u2019t ready to have a kid and settle down<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In the heartbreaking next few lines, the artist returns to the chorus:<\/p>\n<p><em>Dixie darlin\u2019 did you find what you were after<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>A greener pasture, a wilder blue<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>When I think about the things that really matter<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I always wish that I had mattered more to you<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In the song, Dixie\u2019s lover gave her everything he could. He offered her love and commitment. For whatever reason, though, Dixie was not ready to receive that kind of devotion. It could be past trauma or perhaps the secular world scaring her (as it does many other women) into believing that marriage and children mean giving up freedom and one\u2019s dreams. Whatever the reason, Dixie \u201cwasn\u2019t ready to have a kid and settle down,\u201d so she acted on her usual impulse, left, and aborted their baby.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a sense of hopelessness in the upbeat nature of the song\u2019s chorus. Dixie\u2019s lover, like many other fathers, was completely powerless in his partner\u2019s decision to kill their child. All he could do was helplessly sing that he hopes Dixie finds what she\u2019s been after.
