The panel could accept the recommendation, rescind it, or impose an alternative punishment.<\/p>\n<p>McCullough told The Epoch Times in an email that he\u2019ll appeal.<\/p>\n<h2>Allegations<\/h2>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/23242403-abim-notice-to-mccullough\">a May notice<\/a> of potential disciplinary measures, the board said it had learned that McCullough made \u201cnumerous widely reported and disseminated public statements about the purported dangers of, or lack of justification for, Covid-19 vaccines.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As an example, the board cites McCullough\u2019s March 10, 2021, testimony before a Texas Senate panel in which he said that people who have recovered from COVID-19 have \u201ccomplete and durable immunity\u201d and that there was no rationale for vaccinating such a person.<\/p>\n<p>McCullough also said at the time that there was \u201cno scientific rationale\u201d for people who are healthy and younger than 50 to receive one of the vaccines.<\/p>\n<p>In a declaration in a court case, meanwhile, McCullough said that more than 18,000 COVID-19 vaccine deaths had been submitted to the U.S.-run\u00a0Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System and that the number of reported deaths was far above that of all other vaccines combined.<\/p>\n<p>ABIM says the statements might violate the board\u2019s policy on false or inaccurate medical information, which states that \u201cproviding false or inaccurate information to patients or the public is unprofessional and unethical\u201d and could lead to sanctions.<\/p>\n<p>McCullough responded the following month, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/23242410-mccullough-response-cover-letter-to-abim\">requesting<\/a> the matter be dismissed and offering <a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/23242425-dr-mccullough-response-to-abim\">a point-by-point rebuttal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>To back up his statements on COVID-19 vaccination, for instance, McCullough referenced data that shows people younger than 50 have a minuscule risk of death after contracting the illness, particularly if they don\u2019t have serious underlying medical conditions.<\/p>\n<p>He also noted the availability of COVID-19 treatments, that the COVID-19 vaccine spike protein has been linked to problems such as blood clotting, and that the vaccines have provided poor protection against infection and no protection against transmission.<\/p>\n<p>McCullough also referenced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC8164507\/\">research<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medrxiv.org\/content\/10.1101\/2021.01.29.21250653v1\">that<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdpi.com\/2075-1729\/11\/3\/249\">found<\/a> people who have natural immunity\u2014a group excluded from the vaccines\u2019 clinical trials\u2014are at higher risk of side effects from the vaccines and have better protection than the vaccinated.<\/p>\n<p>He said that based on his medical opinion, drawing from his medical education, clinical experience, and review of scientific information, people who have recovered from COVID-19 \u201chave robust and durable immunity against the severe outcomes of adjudicated COVID-19 hospitalization and death recognizing that the Omicron variant has broken\u00a0through natural immunity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also said that there \u201cis no medical necessity or clinical indication for vaccination of a COVID-19 recovered patient since they have already had the condition for which the vaccines are indicated to prevent\u201d and that the scientific evidence doesn\u2019t support vaccinating people younger than the age of 50.<\/p>\n<h2>ABIM Response<\/h2>\n<p>In the decision letter, ABIM said the statements on the alleged lack of benefit from COVID-19 vaccines against mortality for those younger than 50 were \u201cnot factual, scientifically grounded, or consensus driven.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The board based that finding on data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that list more than 71,000 Americans in that population dying from COVID-19 as of Oct. 6. The board referenced no studies or other data.<\/p>\n<p>The board stated that the statements about COVID-19 vaccine deaths also weren\u2019t factual because the CDC says COVID-19 vaccine benefits outweigh the risks. According to the CDC, serious side effects from the vaccines include heart inflammation, blood clotting, and severe allergic shock. All three can cause death.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNothing in your declaration submitted in response to the Notice, or in the materials submitted to ABIM on your behalf, compels a different conclusion,\u201d ABIM wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The board\u2019s only other citation was to the World Health Organization, which stated in March that billions of people around the world \u201chave been safely vaccinated against COVID-19\u201d and that the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines \u201chave been rigorously assessed for safety and clinical trials have shown that they provide a long-lasting immune response.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The latter statement is false; the protection against both infection and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/covid-19-vaccine-booster-effectiveness-quickly-wanes-study_4600551.html\">severe disease<\/a> quickly drops, according to recent CDC data. Some studies <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/moderna-covid-19-vaccine-effectiveness-turns-negative-within-months-study_4785855.html\">have found negative effectiveness<\/a> within months. The waning effectiveness prompted the CDC to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/emails-confirm-why-cdc-changed-definitions-of-vaccine-vaccinated_4590628.html\">change its definition<\/a> of a vaccine.<\/p>\n<p>McCullough said he\u2019s concerned that ABIM will \u201ccontinue to cherry-pick data and claim they have ownership over the \u2018truth\u2019 when in reality we are simply discussing data from a rapidly evolving pandemic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cABIM should be only concerned with my clinical track record \u2026 which is perfect,\u201d he said. \u201cBoard scores and clinical practice are of the highest quality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), who invited McCullough to Capitol Hill to testify, said the doctor \u201chas dedicated his life to saving others\u201d and called for ABIM to reverse its decision.<\/p>\n<h2>ABIM Position, Lawsuit<\/h2>\n<p>ABIM said in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abim.org\/media-center\/press-releases\/joint-statement-on-dissemination-of-misinformation\/\">a 2021 joint statement<\/a> with two other medical boards that doctors who provide \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-misinformation\">misinformation<\/a> about the COVID-19 vaccine\u201d may face disciplinary action.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe evidence that we have safe, effective, and widely available vaccines against COVID-19 is overwhelming. We are particularly concerned about physicians who use their authority to denigrate vaccination at a time when vaccines continue to demonstrate excellent effectiveness against severe illness, hospitalization, and death,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n<p>It was issued with the\u00a0American Board of Family Medicine and the\u00a0American Board of Pediatrics in support of a similar statement from the\u00a0Federation of State Medical Boards.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Richard Baron, ABIM\u2019s president, in a blog post claimed that \u201cthe COVID vaccine is safe and effective\u201d and that ABIM-certified doctors \u201cmust feel obliged to recommend vaccination as a first-line strategy for COVID prevention.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The vaccines have increasingly proven ineffective against infection. Vaccinated people are more likely to become infected within months of vaccination, according to studies published this year.<\/p>\n<p>ABIM later sent threatening letters to McCullough and other certified doctors, including Dr. Pierre Kory.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Association of American Physicians and Surgeons Educational Foundation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/22123818-aaps-lawsuit\">sued ABIM<\/a> and the other boards in July, alleging a violation of the First Amendment.<\/p>\n<p>The case is still ongoing.<\/p>\n<div class=\"author_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"one_author_block round\">\n<div class=\"top_row\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/author-zachary-stieber\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/WEB_ZacharyStieber-1.jpg\" alt=\"Zachary Stieber\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Follow<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Zachary Stieber covers U.S. and world news for The Epoch Times.
