That said, I hope this is a troll and either verify everyone (which will help with bots) or no one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAin\u2019t no one payin for digital indulgences except people who bought into Twitter\u2019s weird treatment of verification for status and not actual verification purposes,\u201d Loesch added. \u201cI\u2019d let it lapse if true.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf it suddenly ended tomorrow, I could somehow adjust to the fall,\u201d National Review writer Dan McLaughlin tweeted.<\/p>\n<p>Social media manager Josh Billinson tweeted: \u201cIt\u2019s gonna be a very funny day on here when 99% of us lose our checks but then we get to know which of you actually thought it was worth paying $20 a month.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s a terrible idea on so many levels,\u201d writer Katherine Brodsky tweeted. \u201cThe whole idea of verification was to ensure the authenticity of users\/protect from fakes. Now, it will be harder to tell if some people or organizations opt out of verification.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere will be more misinformation on Twitter if @elonmusk requires verified users to pay for their blue badge,\u201d national security professor Max Abrahams tweeted. \u201cThe main benefit of the badge is it prevents impersonation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople like me will lose it,\u201d blogger Tomris Laffly tweeted. \u201cI mean, there is absolutely no f***ing way that I will pay for it. If it can be bought, it\u2019s worthless.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeyond upending the stated purpose of verification, this policy would be completely backwards,\u201d reporter Andrew Roth noted. \u201cVerified users account for a huge portion of what gives the platform value.
