President <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joe Biden<\/a> appeared in Syracuse, New York, late last week to <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/biden-fear-gop-economy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">give a speech<\/a> warning about the <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/biden-mega-maga-trickle-down-crash\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">economic consequences<\/a> of a Republican takeover on Capitol Hill.<\/p>\n<p><b><u><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/live-blog\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MIDTERMS 2022 LIVE UPDATES<\/a><\/u><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Even the New York governor\u2019s race has shown some signs of tightening, with a recent Quinnipiac poll showing Gov. <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/kathy-hochul\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kathy Hochul<\/a> (D-NY) leading Rep. <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/lee-zeldin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lee Zeldin<\/a> (R-NY) by just 4 percentage points. A SurveyUSA poll for a local television station also has Hochul in front but receiving less than 50% of the vote, a danger mark for an incumbent. She is up by 7.3 points in the <i>RealClearPolitics <\/i>polling average.<\/p>\n<p>At a minimum, Democratic resources will have to be devoted to New York that could be allocated elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>To Democratic strategist Brad Bannon, the New York campaign blitz simply reflects the dynamics of the race, dominated by a tension between the fragile <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/economy\/core-inflation-rose-to-5-1-in-september-according-to-gauge-watched-by-fed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">state of the economy<\/a> and the Supreme Court\u2019s <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/restoring-america\/fairness-justice\/supreme-court-overturns-roe-v-wade-paving-way-state-abortion-bans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reversal<\/a> of <i><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/roe-v-wade\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Roe v. Wade<\/a><\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a good idea for the first lady to stop in New York on her tour through the Northeast,\u201d he told the <i>Washington Examiner<\/i>. \u201cThe campaign is all about suburban women who are torn between concern about inflation and fear about the GOP efforts to restrict <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/abortion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">abortion rights<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Republicans are making a late push through the once-safe Northeastern liberal redoubts as crime and inflation eat into the leads Democrats had hoped would be strengthened by a backlash against <i><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/dobbs-v-jackson-womens-health-organization\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dobbs v. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization<\/a><\/i>. But in New York, Democrats had once hoped to erase Republican-held congressional districts and lock in their majority during the redistricting process.<\/p>\n<p>The 2020 census showed liberal New York City gaining population while more conservative parts of the state shrank or saw anemic growth, giving Albany Democrats a chance to redraw the map and dominate at least 22 of the remaining 26 districts, leading one elections prognosticator to <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/census-data-new-york-redistricting-democrats-republicans-bloodbath\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">predict<\/a> \u201ca bloodbath for Republicans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But the courts <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/politics\/top-new-york-court-tosses-out-redistricting-map-in-massive-defeat-for-democrats\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tossed this plan<\/a> and instead <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/politics\/new-york-court-cements-democrat-bloodbath-with-new-map\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">approved a map<\/a> that forced some Democratic incumbents to compete with each other.<\/p>\n<p>Now New York Democrats might be paying the price, just weeks after a <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/politics\/new-york-special-election-to-test-whether-abortion-is-weakening-midterm-red-wave\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">special election there<\/a> gave the party hope nationally.<\/p>\n<p>Outgoing Rep. <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/author\/rep-tom-reed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tom Reed<\/a> (R-NY) said Democrats went too far when they tried to wipe out Republican seats in congressional redistricting, and courts were right to reject the maps.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey overreached. The map got challenged, and they\u2019re reaping what they\u2019re what they sowed,\u201d Reed told the <i>Washington Examiner<\/i>. \u201cIt\u2019s going to be a good night for Republicans in New York. I think nine [GOP-held seats out of 26] is very realistic. They were trying to get us down to three. So that\u2019s a six net positive from my perspective. And that goes to show you, in this business, you shouldn\u2019t get greedy. Hogs get slaughtered, pigs live.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The GOP wins he\u2019s counting on are incumbent Republican Reps. Claudia Tenney, <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/elise-stefanik\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Elise Stefanik<\/a>, Andrew Garbarino, and Nicole Malliotakis, as well as candidates Nick LaLota in the 1st Congressional District, Nick Langworthy in the 23rd District, Brandon Williams in the 22nd District, Marc Molinaro in the 19th District, and a potential ninth if Mike Lawler can defeat Maloney, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee&#8217;s chairman, in the 17th District.<\/p>\n<p>Stefanik, who <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/elise-stefanik-announces-bid-for-second-term-as-house-gop-conference-chairwoman\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">heads<\/a> the House Republican Conference, was even more upbeat about GOP chances in New York. Currently, Republicans hold eight of the 27 New York congressional seats. With redistricting, New York goes down to 26 seats next year, and she says the GOP has a shot of winning back the House through the Empire State by itself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDemocrats\u2019 blue wall is going to crumble and be an ash heap in political history,\u201d Stefanik told the <i>Washington Examiner<\/i>. \u201cAnd it\u2019s because single-party Democrat rule has failed in both Washington and Albany, so New Yorkers get a double whammy of far-left radical policies that have made our state more dangerous and have caused significant economic hardship on so many families, seniors, small businesses, farmers. We could win the majority in New York alone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the nine seats mentioned by Reed, Stefanik touted other GOP pickup opportunities in blue territory for George Santos in New York\u2019s 3rd District, Anthony D\u2019Esposito in the 4th District, Colin Schmitt in the 18th District, La\u2019Ron Singletary in the 25th District, and Liz Joy in the 20th District.<\/p>\n<p>She said the Democrats\u2019 redistricting plan backfired, and instead, they will see a \u201cred tsunami\u201d in New York.
