Wade<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA series of emails show Mr Thomas\u2019s assistant corresponding with Diane Moulton on Mr DeSantis\u2019s staff about setting up a lunch with Mr Thomas and four of his clerks,\u201d the report <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/U9X1n#selection-1985.0-1985.165\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>.\u00a0\u201cUltimately, they decided to dine at the Supreme Court in the the Natalie Rehnquist Dining Room. On 24 June, the day after the luncheon, the court handed down its decision for Dobbs v Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization, which overturned the 1973 decision which enshrined the right to seek an abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, left-wing reporter Eric Garcia did not check the dates on the emails, which showed the back-and-forth exchanges occurred last year, not this year.<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis Deputy Press Secretary Jeremy Redfern called Garcia out on social media, writing:\u00a0\u201cHey @EricMGarcia from the @Independent, Is June 23th, 2021 a day before June 24th, 2022?\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Hey <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EricMGarcia?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@EricMGarcia<\/a> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Independent?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Independent<\/a>,<\/p>\n<p>Is June 23th, 2021 a day before June 24th, 2022? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/VuvwsljSSD\">pic.twitter.com\/VuvwsljSSD<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jeremy Redfern (@JeremyRedfernFL) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JeremyRedfernFL\/status\/1585996552337707008?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 28, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am legitimately so sorry. I was not trying to mislead. I am legitimately embarrassed and humiliated,\u201d Garcia responded. \u201cI never wanted to do anything malicious. I am so apologetic. I should have double-checked the dates.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are taking the article down. I cannot apologize enough. I should have double-checked triple-checked dates,\u201d he continued. \u201cI am mortified and legitimately embarrassed. I want to thank @JeremyRedfernFL for flagging. And apologize to Governor DeSantis and Justice Thomas. This is a horrible error on my part.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe story is in the process of being retracted. I am just embarrassed as hell,\u201d he concluded. \u201cWords cannot describe how mortified I am. I try to be honest in my work. I don\u2019t try to do gotcha journalism. I always hated that.
