Following Discovery Merger<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2022\/10\/dc-films-james-gunn-peter-safran-warner-bros-discovery-1235154682\/\"><span>The latest from Deadline is<\/span><\/a> that <em>The Suicide Squad<\/em> director James Gunn and DC films producer Peter Safran, a co-producer on <em>Aquaman<\/em> and <em>Shazam!<\/em>, will be heading up DC Films \u2014 which is being rebranded to \u201cDC Studios\u201d \u2014 together.<\/p>\n<p>Reporting directly to Zaslav \u2014 under their new titles of Co-Chairmen and Chief Executive Officers, respectively \u2014 Gunn and Safran will oversee \u201cthe overall creative direction of the DC Universe across film, TV, and animation under a single banner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The newly appointed DC Studios executives will also have to work closely with Warner Bros. Pictures<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>According to Deadline<em>,<\/em> it initially seemed as if Safran was going to have the new position to himself after Walter Hamada\u2019s departure but in reality the new head of DC Studios simply didn\u2019t want to run the show alone without someone with a creative spark. Enter James Gunn.<\/p>\n<p>As they were the ones advising Zaslav on who to hire, they gradually \u201cbecame even more serious contenders\u201d due to the CEO and De Luca considering a joint model patterned after one Pixar uses with a business face and a creative one.<\/p>\n<p>His new job will make Gunn exclusive to Warner-DC and he assumes his duties with Safran starting in November. Run by the president of production John Rickard in Safran\u2019s absence, the pair are working on several projects with Warner and with other entities including Amazon.<\/p>\n<p><em>Lego Movie<\/em> producer Dan Lin was very publicly in the running for the job by himself, but he either asked for too much money or <a href=\"https:\/\/boundingintocomics.com\/2022\/09\/06\/heir-apparent-to-dc-films-dan-lin-calls-snyderverse-fans-bots\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">his joke about Snyderverse bots on Twitter<\/a> got him in trouble with the higher-ups.
