This week, a number of states opened early in-person <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-voting\">voting<\/a>, including Texas.<\/p>\n<p>The project, which is managed by University of Florida professor Michael McDonald, tracks early voting activity among states that have reported data. Texas, California, Florida, and Georgia have reported more than 1.5 million in-person and mail-in votes as of Oct. 27, the project numbers show.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt does seem very robust, early voting \u2026 I think we\u2019re looking at more like a 2018 election, definitely,\u201d McDonald told ABC News on Oct. 24, referring to the high turnout.<\/p>\n<p>More than three dozen states have already opened early voting. For the 2022 midterms, early voting phases range from 46 days to three days before Election Day, the National Conference of State Legislatures says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCongratulations, Georgia voters! We\u2019ve reached 1 MILLION cast votes. Election officials deserve our thanks for rising to the challenge &#038; working hard to serve our communities,\u201d Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, a Republican, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GaSecofState\/status\/1585001949094907904?s=20&#038;t=29buHlbZjeQYJ-bKAsVkHg\">wrote<\/a> on Twitter on Oct. 25.<\/p>\n<p>Georgia has two key races, including for the U.S. Senate and governor\u2019s office. Incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) is facing Republican Herschel Walker, a former NFL and college football star, while Gov. Brian Kemp is facing a rematch with Democrat activist Stacey Abrams.<\/p>\n<p>Early polling places across Maryland were slated to open on Oct. 27, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovLarryHogan\/status\/1585340092784455680?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1585340092784455680%7Ctwgr%5Ee04385c6523cb7ada91bc36a4a3b22dd6311e240%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&#038;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cbsnews.com%2Fbaltimore%2Fnews%2Fearly-in-person-voting-begins-in-maryland%2F\">according<\/a> to its governor.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans are favored by analysts and betting oddsmakers to win the House in the Nov. 8 elections, buoyed by frustration over the lackadaisical economy and decades-high inflation.\u00a0Democrats are attempting to hold their ground and are relying heavily on campaign messaging around abortion.<\/p>\n<p>If Republicans take just five seats, they can win back a majority in the House. In recent decades, the party that has held the White House has lost congressional seats during midterm elections.<\/p>\n<p>Should the GOP prevail in the lower chamber, members of the Republican caucus would elect a new House speaker. They will also run each House committee and decide what bills will make it to the House floor. It\u2019s also likely that the Democrat-dominated House Jan. 6 select committee, which has two Republicans who won\u2019t be reelected during the midterms, will come to an end.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans also only need a net gain of one seat to take control of the Senate, which currently stands at 50-50, with Vice President Kamala Harris serving as a tie-breaker.
