However, he is not dead.<\/p>\n<p>The 87-year-old musician nicknamed the Killer was reported to have died Wednesday. <\/p>\n<p>TMZ was one of the first outlets to report that Lewis had died, however within a few hours the original story had been scrubbed from the site and in its place was a retraction.<\/p>\n<p>Hey, that\u2019s why pencils have erasers.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cJerry Lee Lewis is not dead \u2026 as we previously reported,\u201d the retraction begins.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re told the rock \u2018n\u2019 roll legend is alive, living in Memphis. Earlier today we were told by someone claiming to be Lewis\u2019 rep that he had passed,\u201d The site explained. \u201cThat turned out not to be the case.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTMZ regrets the error.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-lewis-reps-made-sure-people-knew-he-was-still-alive\">Lewis\u2019 Reps Made Sure People Knew He Was Still Alive<\/h2>\n<p>The mistake was discovered when Lewis\u2019 rep started telling everyone the musician was alive and in Memphis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s alive. TMZ reported erroneously off of a bulls\u2013t anonymous tip,\u201d Lewis\u2019 rep told Variety.<\/p>\n<p>Lewis is responsible for hits like \u201cGreat Balls of Fire\u201d and \u201cWhole Lot of Shakin\u2019 Going On.\u201d His songs went on to become hugely influential on artists that shaped music, including one band that got pretty popular called the Beatles.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, Lewis was inducted into the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/entertainment\/jerry-lee-lewis-keith-whitley-inducted-country-music-hall-fame\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Country Music Hall of Fame<\/a>. A picture was posted to his official Instagram account showing Lewis \u2014 who had the flu at the time \u2014 receiving the honor from actor and musician Kris Kristofferson.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/Cj6eS8KgV8o\/?utm_source=ig_embed&#038;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\"><\/blockquote>\n<p>Lewis suffered a stroke in 2019 and hasn\u2019t performed since, but is still very much a part of the entertainment world.
