Nope. That\u2019s the very real face of an ant,\u201d Rebekah McKendry, PhD, tweeted. \u201cAn ant. That\u2019s the very real face of an ant. <br \/>An ant. <br \/>Now you have to think about that all night. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/HOWLTlnfJ1\">pic.twitter.com\/HOWLTlnfJ1<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Rebekah McKendry, PhD (@RebekahMcKendry) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RebekahMcKendry\/status\/1581898364144144384?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 17, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Washington Post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/climate-environment\/2022\/09\/19\/ants-population-20-quadrillion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> last month that there are estimated to be 20 quadrillion ants on earth, or 20,000 trillion.<\/p>\n<p>To put that into perspective, for everyone one person on earth, there are an estimated 2.5 million ants.<\/p>\n<p>The report said that the total estimated biomass of the ants on earth is approximately 12 megatons of dry carbon, which is greater than the estimated mass of all the wild birds and mammals on earth combined.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, this isn\u2019t some alien monster out of a horror movie, this is an actual photograph of an ant using a magnifying lens,\u201d Dr. Yasir Qadhi tweeted in reaction to the photo. \u201cSleep well, my friends, and appreciate the blessings of size that your Lord has given you over this!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is why you don\u2019t scroll before bed,\u201d Matthew Ghoult, writer at Motherboard, tweeted.<\/p>\n<p>Librarian Megan Rosenberg tweeted, \u201cMy husband showed this to me last night &#038; I felt almost irate that I now know this horror.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can see this being the inspiration for a new horror movie creature,\u201d activist Darry Wharton-Rigby tweeted.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A close up photograph of an ant\u2019s face has gone viral on social media this week as the high definition image showed the ant\u2019s face to be something straight out of a horror movie.
