Customers text an order for cocaine, and they deliver it to your door.<\/p>\n<p>The cocaine delivered to all three of these victims, however, was laced with fentanyl.<\/p>\n<p>The first victim was Julia Ghahramani. She had just graduated from Columbia Law School school in 2020. One night, while alone in 2021, she texted a number that belonged to a drug answering service, and she asked if they could send somebody to deliver cocaine.<\/p>\n<p>The service sent somebody within nine minutes. Julia was found dead the next morning.<\/p>\n<p>The second victim was Amanda Scher. Scher was 36 years old. She was also at her apartment, alone in New York City. She called the same drug delivery service and the drugs arrived a couple of hours later, and she tried them.<\/p>\n<p>She texted the dealer and said, \u201cthat batch was better than the last batch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She then jumped on for a private patient online consultation from 8:00pm to 9:00pm. Afterward, she sat down on the sofa, turned on the television, and was not heard from again.<\/p>\n<p>You can guess exactly where that story ended.<\/p>\n<p>The third victim is the most traumatizing because he was about to become a father for the first time. His name was Ross Mtangi. He was 40 years-old, and he left his pregnant partner to go stay in a hotel to get some work done.<\/p>\n<p>He was a Harvard graduate and very successful in the world of finance. He had his entire life ahead of him. He actually got on to a conference call with his boss simultaneously around the same time he was texting a dealer, asking him to deliver the goods. After that call ended, he missed a follow-up call with his boss.<\/p>\n<p>Mtangi\u2019s boss texted his employee\u2019s sister, actually, and said, \u201cHey, I haven\u2019t heard from your brother.\u201d Obviously, his wife was worried about him and also reached out to the sister.<\/p>\n<p>His sister found him in that hotel the next morning, dead of an overdose.<\/p>\n<p>All three victims across town had partaken of the exact same batch of what they thought was pure cocaine, but in fact, was laced with fentanyl.<\/p>\n<p>The Journal did a very good job in presenting this story, documenting the victim\u2019s families\u2019 tragedy, and bringing one of the most important issues to the forefront.<\/p>\n<p>But the sad truth is this story is happening in towns all across America.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also important because a similar thing happened just a couple of years ago in my hometown with three people I was close with and knew well. It is entirely too common in America.<\/p>\n<p>So where is the rest of the media?<\/p>\n<p>In case you are not aware, we are now at a critical point with this crisis. One hundred and seventy five (175) <a href=\"https:\/\/gregmurphy.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/murphy-fentanyl-killing-more-young-americans-covid-19#:~:text=Unfortunately%2C%20an%20open%20border%20means,175%20people%20every%20single%20day.\">people per day<\/a> in the United States are dying from accidental fentanyl overdoses.<\/p>\n<p>Because of that, we now live in a society where your children (and you) cannot experiment with drugs \u2014 at all.<\/p>\n<p>Not that it was ever a great idea \u2014 but it was different. Growing up during my time, nobody was fearful that the stuff that they were going to consume was going to be laced with fentanyl.<\/p>\n<p>This message has to be communicated effectively to all teenagers right now. You have to make them aware that this is one of the scariest crises taking place in America.\u00a0Experimenting with drugs could kill you \u2014 within minutes.<\/p>\n<p>So where is the mainstream media on this? Why aren\u2019t they covering this like they did COVID?<\/p>\n<p>When COVID started, we had a ticker every single day across the mainstream media trying to make us fear that if we get COVID, we will die. What happened? We all reacted. People began locking themselves at home. People start wearing masks.<\/p>\n<p>Why isn\u2019t the media trying to communicate the same dangers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/drugoverdose\/deaths\/fentanyl-encounters\/index.html\">when it comes to fentanyl<\/a>? Why aren\u2019t we seeing people recognizing how fearful they should be over this very real \u2014 and not imagined \u2014 crisis?<\/p>\n<p>Since the mainstream media doesn\u2019t highlight it as much as they should, here are a few quick facts:<\/p>\n<p>Customs and Border Protection <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/117\/bills\/hr9162\/BILLS-117hr9162ih.pdf\">data shows<\/a> that in fiscal year 20221, 12,900 pounds of fentanyl have been seized at the border \u2014 more than in 2021, 2020, and 2019.107,521 people <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drugpolicyfacts.org\/chapter\/causes_of_death\">overdosed<\/a> in 2021 which is up 51% since 2019.<\/p>\n<p>This is no longer the time in America when you can simply experiment with drugs and get away with it as a rebellious teenager \u2014 it could kill you on the spot.<\/p>\n<p><em>Be sure to<\/p>\n<p><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Why isn\u2019t the mainstream media covering America\u2019s fentanyl crisis more seriously?
