Fox<\/a> said he\u2019s been facing some challenges lately with Parkinson\u2019s, but he\u2019s still generally \u201chappy\u201d with life.<\/p>\n<p>The 61-year-old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/entertainment\">actor<\/a> was diagnosed with the degenerative disease more than three decades ago and has opened up about the struggle before. He previously described 2018 as the worst year of his life after undergoing back surgery to remove a tumor and then breaking an arm.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Now Fox told People magazine during a new <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/tv\/michael-j-fox-opens-up-about-painful-injuries-recovery-and-kind-acts-that-changed-his-life\/\">interview<\/a> that his medical issues continued beyond that.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt got worse,\u201d the \u201cBack to the Future\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/celebrities\">star<\/a> told the publication. \u201cI broke my cheek, then my hand, then my shoulder, had a replacement shoulder put in and broke my [right] arm, then I broke my elbow. I\u2019m 61 years old, and I\u2019m feeling it a little bit more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fox said that even though he\u2019s good at taking things in stride, these setbacks did affect his mood and overall demeanor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was never really a cranky guy, but I got very cranky and short with people,\u201d he told People. \u201cI try to nip it in the bud. I always think of these aides who work with me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I often say to them, \u2018Whatever I say, just imagine I said \u2018please\u2019 at the beginning and \u2018thank you\u2019 at the end. Just take a second and absorb that I might have said that if I was more myself, but I didn\u2019t, so I apologize.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The actor explained that now he\u2019s on the mend and feeling more optimistic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m coming through where the last of my injuries are healing up; my arm is feeling good,\u201d Fox said. \u201cLife is interesting. It deals you these things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One way he handles everything is by setting small goals. Fox gave an example, saying, \u201cThe whole mission is: Don\u2019t fall down. So whatever works to not fall down, whether it\u2019s a walker or a wheelchair, a cane, a guy with a belt around my waist holding onto it \u2014 I use all those tools.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m just getting to where I\u2019m walking steadily again,\u201d he continued. \u201cI think it\u2019s cool to walk by myself. It is. It\u2019s fantastic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The retired actor said part of what helps him stay positive is thinking about how his moods affect his wife, Tracy Pollan, to who he\u2019s been married since 1988.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt took me a while to get that it wasn\u2019t just about me,\u201d he explained. \u201cIf I break my arm, I\u2019m dealing with my broken arm. But if you\u2019re the person who lives with and loves and supports the person with the broken arm, you\u2019ve got to do everything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, Fox said he can find joy in life despite living with Parkinson\u2019s. \u201cIt\u2019s been a struggle, but I\u2019m happy,\u201d he concluded. \u201cI say that because I hope on some level people can find happiness in spite of what they\u2019re going through.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Michael J.
