American households might be frightened by how much they will be paying for candy this year as\u00a0Halloween approaches next week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"a8d-pre\">High inflation has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/news.release\/cpi.t07.htm#cpipress7.f.4\">increased<\/a> the cost of candy\u00a0by 13.1 percent from a year ago \u2014 the highest price increase ever recorded.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>This can be attributed to a surge in production costs and price increases for sugar, milk, and flour ingredients. According to the Labor Department, sugar is up by 14.4 percent, milk is up by 15.2 percent, and flour has jumped by a whopping 24.2 percent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"a8d-pre\">A drought in sugar beet crops is also affecting production costs has also affected production. (Drew Angerer\/Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>According to the <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em>, Starburst bars have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/soaring-inflation-pushes-halloween-candy-prices-scary-high-11666643954\">increased<\/a> by 35 percent, while Skittles bars have jumped by 42 percent. Both products are made by Mars Inc.<\/p>\n<p class=\"a8d-pre\">Furthermore, on Amazon.com, a bag of fun-size Snickers bars is currently selling for $12, whereas a year ago, it was only selling for about $5. A family-sized bag of Sourpatch kids is now selling for $16.99, whereas it was selling for $12 this time last year.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Companies have also been turning to shrinkflation to save on costs without raising prices. In 2015, households only spent $74.34 on Halloween costs on average.<\/p>\n<p>Overall inflation has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2022\/10\/13\/consumer-prices-surge-higher-than-expected\/\">increased<\/a> by 8.2 percent since last year, while core inflation \u2014 not including food and energy prices \u2014 is up 6.6 percent, a 40-year high, Breitbart News reported.
