This means future photo ID legislation, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/securemivote.org\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Secure MI Vote<\/a>, would be unconstitutional for Michigan lawmakers to pass. While Democrats claim Prop 2 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politifact.com\/factchecks\/2022\/sep\/30\/ted-nugent\/michigans-proposal-2-doesnt-end-states-voter-id-re\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">preserves voter ID<\/a> because it doesn\u2019t outright ban it, they fail to mention that stricter photo ID requirements could never be adopted if Prop 2 passes.<\/p>\n<p>Prop 2 was designed to mislead voters into thinking they are preserving voter ID, when in reality they are ensuring Michiganders will never be required to show a photo ID to cast a ballot ever again, according to Jason Snead, executive director of the Honest Elections Project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSupporters of Proposal 2 are gaslighting Michiganders by claiming the measure preservers voter ID. That\u2019s a lie. Proposal 2 would allow voters to simply sign a piece of paper and vote without ever showing an ID,\u201d Snead told The Federalist. \u201cWe think people should know the truth about what they are voting on, and the supporters of Proposal 2 are misleading Michigan because they know photo ID is too popular to oppose.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Requiring photo identification to vote is overwhelmingly popular across the American electorate. According to a Monmouth University poll, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/polling-institute\/reports\/monmouthpoll_us_062121\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">80 percent of respondents<\/a> said they support laws requiring photo identification to submit a ballot. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlive.com\/public-interest\/2022\/07\/michigan-voter-id-initiative-submits-signatures-late-could-pass-via-legislature.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">More than 500,000 Michiganders<\/a> also signed a petition for the Michigan legislature to enact a true photo ID requirement for in-person and mail-in voting. <\/p>\n<p>Promote the Vote, the campaign behind Proposal 2, \u201cis trying desperately to block that law, which could be adopted without a governor\u2019s signature,\u201d Snead said. <\/p>\n<p><strong>[READ: <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/10\/13\/conservatives-cant-let-democrats-midterm-assault-on-kids-and-elections-fall-through-the-cracks-in-michigan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Conservatives Can\u2019t Let Democrats\u2019 Midterm Assault On Kids And Elections Fall Through The Cracks In Michigan<\/a>]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Removing voter ID requirements is just one aspect of Proposal 2, a radical ballot initiative meant to overhaul Michigan\u2019s elections in a number of ways. As previously <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/09\/12\/democrat-majority-michigan-supreme-court-greenlights-democrat-plan-to-take-over-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>, the proposed constitutional amendment would allow for nine days of early voting; require state-funded absentee ballot drop boxes; give voters a \u201cright\u201d to request an absentee ballot, thus retaining mass mail-in balloting, the least secure form of conducting elections; allow private, outside donations to fund elections (think <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/10\/12\/the-2020-election-wasnt-stolen-it-was-bought-by-mark-zuckerberg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Zuckbucks 2.0<\/a>); and divest local canvassing boards of their authority to conduct election audits. Instead, that power would be reserved for Michigan\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/person\/jocelyn-benson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">secretary of state<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/10\/05\/lawsuit-michigan-secretary-of-state-broke-the-law-with-rogue-restrictions-on-poll-challengers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Democratic activist<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/08\/26\/judge-denies-michigan-secretary-of-states-motion-to-dismiss-lawsuit-removing-26000-dead-registrants-from-voter-rolls\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jocelyn Benson<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Think of it as the state version of Democrats\u2019 ill-fated <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/03\/02\/republicans-slam-democrats-power-grab-bill-normalizing-2020-election-problems\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HR 1<\/a>, a progressive power-grab aimed at federalizing state and local elections and doing away with most election-related safeguards. It didn\u2019t <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/06\/22\/senate-elections-reform-bill-495487\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pass<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Now Democrats are focused on taking their overhaul of America\u2019s election processes to the states themselves.
