Governor John Fetterman and Republican <a href=\"http:\/\/dailywire.com\/topic\/mehmet-oz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. Mehmet Oz<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Fetterman, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-top-democrat-in-u-s-senate-race-in-pennsylvania-hospitalized-after-suffering-stroke\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">suffered a stroke<\/a> days before the primary elections, faltered and provided choppy responses throughout the hour-long contest due to the stroke he experienced earlier this year as Oz, a veteran television host, aggressively pressed his opponent. The two candidates <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/confident-oz-and-struggling-fetterman-clash-in-pennsylvania-senate-debate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">exchanged blows<\/a> on a variety of topics on Tuesday evening as undecided Pennsylvania voters made final deliberations two weeks ahead of election day.<\/p>\n<p>Nexstar Media Group, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nexstar.tv\/nexstar-to-host-debate-us-senate-from-pa-on-oct-25\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">broadcast<\/a> the debate on stations throughout the commonwealth, is in the midst of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/politics\/pennsylvania\/verizon-nexstar-pennsylvania-senate-debate-john-fetterman-mehmet-oz-20221025.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dispute<\/a> with Verizon regarding a new distribution agreement. Verizon blacked out all Nexstar stations earlier this month, meaning that many Philadelphians attempting to watch the debate via television may have run into issues. However, the debate was also available to view for free on the websites belonging to Nexstar stations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have offered to extend our agreement with Nexstar but they have refused an extension,\u201d a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.verizon.com\/support\/residential\/content-agreement-information\/content-information?CMP=afc_h_p_cj_oth_fios_2022_04_fios-afc-100036655_11557999&#038;URL=https:\/\/www.verizon.com\/support\/residential\/content-agreement-information\/content-information%3FCMP%3DOLA_CON_OTH_22222_NA_20220916_NA_NM20220085_00001&#038;SID=82462X1534127Xadbddea1fc80004a9b8c38d0847a6337&#038;cjevent=b97a974e4c9d11ed817fdca10a82b82c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">webpage<\/a> for Verizon asserts. Seven channels serving the Philadelphia market and two channels serving Harrisburg, the state capital, are impacted by the negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>Given Fetterman\u2019s lackluster performance, which occurred despite large closed captioning systems placed behind the moderators to aid with auditory processing, the obstacle presented to Philadelphians may have salient impacts on the midterm election results. President Joe Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/10\/08\/us\/politics\/fetterman-pennsylvania-senate-race.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emerged victorious<\/a> in the commonwealth two years ago because of college-educated voters residing in suburbs near the Keystone State\u2019s largest city.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, roughly three-quarters of registered voters in Philadelphia County are affiliated with the Democratic Party, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dos.pa.gov\/VotingElections\/OtherServicesEvents\/VotingElectionStatistics\/Pages\/VotingElectionStatistics.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">data<\/a> from the Pennsylvania Department of State.<\/p>\n<p>Fetterman\u2019s poor showing on Tuesday was immediately <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/fetterman-faces-fallout-from-disastrous-debate-worst-performance-by-any-candidate-i-have-ever-seen\">noticed<\/a> by both conservative and liberal commentators, while betting markets quickly shifted in favor of Oz. During the debate, Fetterman deflected when asked if he would commit to releasing his medical records or updating the public on his condition. \u201cI believe if my doctor believes that I\u2019m fit to serve, and, and that\u2019s what I believe is appropriate,\u201d Fetterman told moderators when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/fetterman-on-why-he-wont-release-medical-records-my-doctors-believe-i-am-ready-to-be-served\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">questioned<\/a> about his health. \u201cAnd I believe that again, my doctors, the real doctors that I believe in, they all believe that I\u2019m ready to be served.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Noting that Oz had spent significant time on the airwaves during his decade-plus stint as a medical talk show host, the Fetterman campaign preemptively acknowledged the disparity between the two nominees and established low expectations for the Democrat in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/this-isnt-johns-format-fetterman-team-offers-preemptive-excuses-ahead-of-debate-with-dr-oz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emailed statement<\/a> on Monday. \u201cWe are prepared for Oz\u2019s allies and right-wing media to circulate malicious viral videos after the debate that try to paint John in a negative light because of awkward pauses, missing some words, and mushing other words together,\u201d the message remarked. \u201cJohn has had a remarkable recovery, but the ongoing auditory processing challenges are real.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Oz spent much of his time during the debate mentioning examples of conversations he has shared with Pennsylvanians on issues such as crime and inflation over the past several months, repeatedly blasting Fetterman for failing to hit the campaign trail.
