Gorham School District is located\u00a0about two hours north of Boston and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gorhamschools.org\/apps\/pages\/index.jsp?uREC_ID=455068&#038;type=d&#038;pREC_ID=989841\">serves<\/a>\u00a0around 2,700 students.\u00a0The email surfaced when Eric Lane, whose daughter attends school in the district, obtained it through Maine\u2019s Freedom of Access Act (FOAA).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe often do have candidates who are not fully certified apply, but I\u2019ll be honest, that is often because they are white candidates who feel \u2019empowered\u2019 to do so,\u201d Perry wrote in the April 27 email.<\/p>\n<p>The email was sent to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.portlandschools.org\/calendars\/news\/~board\/district-school-news\/post\/schools-central-office-get-new-leaders\">local<\/a>\u00a0social justice advocate Farausi Cherry, who\u00a0described himself as \u201cBIPOC\u201d in the email exchange and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gorhamschools.org\/apps\/pages\/index.jsp?uREC_ID=456522&#038;type=d&#038;pREC_ID=1226843\">serves<\/a> on the\u00a0Anti-Racist Advisory Subcommittee of the Gorham School Committee.<\/p>\n<p>Perry went on to write that when employers put \u201cexperience preferred\u201d in a job posting, \u201csome folks, especially those from marginalized populations are likely NOT to apply because they may feel unwelcomed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBottom line\u2026these are ALL THINGS I would LOVE feedback on from the Anti-Racism &#038; Equity Committee,\u201d Perry wrote.<\/p>\n<p>After obtaining the email, Lane\u00a0submitted a formal complaint about the superintendent to the school committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresuming to know the motives, background or character of an individual based on the color of his or her skin is racist,\u201d Lane wrote in his Oct. 12 complaint to Gorham School Committee Chairwoman Anne Schools.<\/p>\n<p>The father then\u00a0met with the superintendent over a Zoom call\u00a0to discuss her comment, during which Perry appeared to become testy.<\/p>\n<p>Perry told the dad he was taking her comment out of context, according to a recording of the call viewed by The Daily Wire.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t see that we\u2019re going to reach a resolution, and it\u2019s time to end this meeting,\u201d Perry said toward the end of the 10-minute meeting.<\/p>\n<p>In an emailed comment to The Daily Wire, Perry emphasized that the district\u2019s hiring practices are not discriminatory in any way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring my meeting with Mr. Lane, I explained that the Gorham School Department does not make employment decisions based on race and that our policies squarely prohibit such conduct,\u201d Perry said.<\/p>\n<p>Perry added that the email in question was about job postings and \u201chow\u00a0important it is for employers to cast a wide net for applicants to ensure a diverse workforce.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is not Lane\u2019s first run-in with the superintendent.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, Perry <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/maine-superintendent-told-staff-to-slow-the-process-down-after-parent-requested-gender-material-be-removed-from-classroom\">told<\/a>\u00a0staff to make sure Lane had to jump through hoops to get\u00a0posters about gender identity removed from his daughter\u2019s sixth-grade classroom at Gorham Middle School.\u00a0The superintendent emailed staff in April to \u201cslow the process down\u201d on Lane\u2019s request.<\/p>\n<p>In May, the dad\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/view.earthchannel.com\/PlayerController.aspx?&#038;PGD=gorhamme&#038;eID=512\">spoke<\/a> at a school board meeting and accused the school of a laundry list of offenses relating to forcing progressive gender ideology on students, saying the school is \u201cencouraging children to be woke activists and fight for change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The father is calling for an independent investigation to \u201cevaluate the level of corrupt behavior in this school district to restore faith in the staff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lane is not the only parent to complain about the superintendent.<\/p>\n<p>Other parents have also expressed their concerns about gender ideology being pushed on students as well as the superintendent\u2019s comments about slow-walking parent requests.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Maine school superintendent wrote in an email reviewed by The Daily Wire that unqualified white people apply feel \u201cempowered\u201d to apply for jobs\u00a0they\u2019re not qualified to do.
