Maggie Hassan (D-NH) suggested Monday that she does not believe she is a shoo-in for a second Senate term.<\/p>\n<p>At a campaign event in Derry, New Hampshire, Hassan warned Granite Staters that it is a tight contest between her and Republican Don Bolduc.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis has always been a close race,\u201d Hassan said.\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s going to be a close race. We are New Hampshire. We are a very purple state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b data-stringify-type=\"bold\"><a class=\"c-link c-link--focus-visible\" tabindex=\"-1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=7ArBOzBgA0k\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-stringify-link=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=7ArBOzBgA0k\" data-sk=\"tooltip_parent\" data-remove-tab-index=\"true\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-53601\">CLICK HERE TO WATCH ELECTION WIRE FOR ALL THE LATEST NEWS AND POLLING ON THE UPCOMING MIDTERMS<\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, the race was not so close just three weeks ago, when Hassan\u00a0led Bolduc by 9 points, the\u00a0former governor\u00a0garnering\u00a050% to Bolduc\u2019s 41%, according to a Suffolk University <a href=\"https:\/\/www.suffolk.edu\/news-features\/news\/2022\/09\/29\/13\/53\/2022-nh-poll\">poll<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Hassan still leads Bolduc by 3 points, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/epolls\/2022\/senate\/nh\/new-hampshire-senate-bolduc-vs-hassan-7379.html\">according<\/a> to the Real Clear Politics average of polls, but her lead was <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20221017153630\/https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/epolls\/2022\/senate\/nh\/new-hampshire-senate-bolduc-vs-hassan-7379.html\">nearly<\/a> 6 points at the beginning of last week.<\/p>\n<p>Bolduc, a former Army general, has raised and spent much less money than Hassan over the course of the campaign, but in recent weeks he has surged in the polls and come within striking distance.<\/p>\n<p>Bolduc was initially heavily supported by the Senate Leadership Fund, which is backed by Senate GOP Leader\u00a0Mitch McConnell. However, on Friday, the fund <a href=\"https:\/\/wfin.com\/fox-political-news\/democratic-sen-maggie-hassan-touts-effort-to-push-biden-administration-to-do-more-to-lower-energy-prices\/\">pulled<\/a> the last $5.6 million it had planned to spend on ads for Bolduc amid concerns about his ability to win.\u00a0This week though, the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/3703659-gop-senate-campaign-arm-jumping-back-into-new-hampshire\/\">announced<\/a> it would support Bolduc and put seven figures toward TV ads.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon Bolduc is running a great race against Maggie Hassan, who\u2019s being weighed down by her full-throated support for Joe Biden and his agenda that\u2019s hurting New Hampshire families,\u201d said Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL), who chairs the NRSC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur polling, along with recent public polling, shows that this race is in the margin of error and winnable,\u201d Scott said.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, the candidates clashed when they met face-to-face for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wmur.com\/article\/maggie-hassan-don-bolduc-nh-debate-video\/41688228#\">debate<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe wouldn\u2019t even know what a town hall looks like unless it\u2019s through Zoom,\u201d Bolduc <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=9APoLMLuzLE\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Hassan continued to emphasize her support for abortion on demand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon Bolduc\u2019s record makes clear he would be a \u2018yes\u2019 vote for a national abortion ban,\u201d Hassan said.<\/p>\n<p>The candidates also appeared together Tuesday morning for a\u00a0candidate forum at a restaurant in Rye, New Hampshire.<\/p>\n<p>At that event, Bolduc criticized Hassan for running \u201cattack\u201d ads against him, saying the lack of civility is \u201cwrong.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will not lower myself to that level. I will not do that. You deserve better in your public servants,\u201d Bolduc said.<\/p>\n<p>Toward the end of the event, Hassan called her opponent \u201cpossibly the most extreme opponent nominee for the United State Senate that New Hampshire has seen in modern history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Inflation and energy have also been prominent issues in this race.<\/p>\n<p>Bolduc has called to cut spending to slow inflation. Hassan said she plans to continue to push the Biden administration to do more to lower the cost of home heating fuel this winter, but so far, prices remain high.<\/p>\n<p>Hassan was joined on the campaign trail Monday by Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), who praised her as \u201cthe most uniting force in the United States Senate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Up to now, the New Hampshire race has not been as closely watched as other high-profile Senate races like those in Pennsylvania and Georgia.<\/p>\n<p>With Bolduc nipping at Hassan\u2019s heels in the campaign\u2019s last two weeks, though, the race could attract more national attention.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sen.
