The television specials have since become known as holiday classics enjoyed by millions of viewers worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>The famed producer was known for his longtime work with director Arthur Rankin Jr.<\/p>\n<p>During their years together, the Rankin\/Bass Productions company set new standards for stop-motion technology. The productions included the use of thousands of individual photos pieced together at 24 frames per second in a process known as Animagic, The Hollywood Reporter noted.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Very sad to hear about the death of Jules Bass, of Rankin-Bass fame. The team won an Emmy for their work on \u201cThe Little Drummer Boy Book II\u201d in 1977 and released an animated version of J.R.R. Tolkien\u2019s \u201cThe Hobbit\u201d in 1980, later releasing the sequel, \u201cThe Return of the King.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Additional television programs released by the production company included \u201cHere Comes Peter Cottontail\u201d (1971), the \u201cJackson 5ive\u201d series (1971-1972), \u201cThe Year Without a Santa Claus\u201d (1974), the 1980s series \u201cThundercats,\u201d and \u201cThe Coneheads\u201d (1983), <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2022\/film\/news\/jules-bass-dead-rudolph-the-red-nosed-reindeer-1235414059\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to<\/a> Variety.<\/p>\n<p>Bass and Rankin also co-directed \u201cThe Last Unicorn\u201d (1983). The animated film featured top Hollywood voices, including Jeff Bridges, Mia Farrow, and Angela Lansbury.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to television and film projects, Bass was a composer of popular songs. His popular-song works include \u201cPinocchio,\u201d \u201cThree Sad Souls,\u201d and \u201cDaydreamer,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0060072\/bio?ref_=nm_ov_bio_sm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to<\/a> IMDB.<\/p>\n<p>Bass went on to author multiple children\u2019s books in his later years. He also released the novel Headhunters (2001), which was adapted for the 2011 film \u201cMonte Carlo\u201d starring Selena Gomez, Leighton Meester, and Katie Cassidy.<\/p>\n<p>Bass was born in Philadelphia in 1935, attending New York University before joining Rankin in what would later become one of the outstanding partnerships in children\u2019s productions.<\/p>\n<p>Rankin passed away on January 30, 2014, in Harrington Sound, Bermuda.
