Smith<\/a> told Bill Maher he agreed with him that \u201cit\u2019s your body\u201d when it comes to athletes being unvaccinated following a viral clip of Smith slamming NBA star Kyrie Irving for refusing to get the COVID vaccine.<\/p>\n<p>During the ESPN host\u2019s\u00a0appearance on the \u201cClub Random with Bill Maher\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=RAu2o2yrV3M\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">podcast<\/a> Monday, Maher asked Smith about his <a href=\"https:\/\/fb.watch\/go86KyC9si\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">past comments<\/a> regarding\u00a0Brooklyn Nets star <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/kyrie-irving\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kyrie\u00a0Irving<\/a>\u00a0\u201cregress[ing] to an alarming level of self-righteousness\u201d after Irving spoke out against the vaccine mandate. Smith said it makes Irving look \u201cstupid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know what you thought of the athletes who didn\u2019t want to get vaccinated, and I don\u2019t want to get into a big fight about it, because I will,\u201d the host said. \u201cBut I was on their side. Because health is a case-by-case basis, and when you\u2019re a finely-tuned athlete with a body that is perfect, because that\u2019s your living, you put in that body only what you want to put on to keep that instrument, that is your instrument.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe idea that [Novak] Djokovic was going to hurt anybody, or Aaron Rodgers, or, oh my gosh, Kyrie Irving, I mean, clutch\u00a0my pearls,\u201d he added. \u201cI thought \u2018Bully for you guys for standing,\u2019 especially Kyrie Irving, because he gave up a lot of money, although he\u2019ll get it back, because he can play now, right?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>\u201cLet me be very clear,\u201d Smith replied. \u201cI don\u2019t disagree with you. \u2026 Yeah, it\u2019s your body, and somebody is trying to tell you what to inject into your body. I didn\u2019t like it, I was very reluctant and hesitant about getting vaccinated. But obviously it\u2019s made very clear, you know, you want to work here in these corridors, you need to do this, right?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHere\u2019s where I held it against Kyrie,\u201d he added. \u201cIt had nothing to do with being vaccinated \u2026 or being unvaccinated, in my mind. What bothered me is that you are a superstar on a team that is a championship contender, and everybody is there because of you\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut it\u2019s still his body,\u201d Maher interjected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll I\u2019m saying is, it\u2019s your right,\u201d Smith replied. \u201cBut I\u2019m thinking about it from a competitive perspective. A lot of dudes in the NBA didn\u2019t want to do it. But you\u2019re playing for a championship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maher reiterated that it\u2019s a person\u2019s body that the vaccine is now inside of, and \u201cwe just don\u2019t know that much. Even though they think they do. \u2026 Because nobody can realistically look you in the eye and say we are a million percent sure there\u2019s just no doubt that no harm can come, and I\u2019m talking about down the road.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Smith admitted that despite his hesitancy, he got the vaccine, but then caught a bad case of COVID and ended up in the hospital in December.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had COVID. I was double vaccinated, I hadn\u2019t taken the booster shot yet,\u201d the ESPN host said. \u201cDamn thing almost killed me because I had an endoscopy prior to acquiring COVID. I had double pneumonia. \u2026 So I understand where everybody\u2019s coming from and I get all of that, but I also say this to you \u2014 when it comes to professional athletes, you know how much stuff gets put in their body that they have no damn clue whatsoever what it is?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The HBO host disputed his claim and said athletes like Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers know exactly what they are putting in their body.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, obviously, it didn\u2019t work on you,\u201d Maher added, noting that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/espns-stephen-a-smith-reveals-he-has-covid-19-calls-nets-decision-to-allow-unvaccinated-kyrie-irving-back-disgraceful\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Smith<\/a> got COVID after two vaccination shots.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m acknowledging I don\u2019t know,\u201d Smith replied. \u201cBut what I\u2019m saying is that I don\u2019t know and yet I\u2019m here in this situation. On one hand, they\u2019re telling me because I was vaccinated, that\u2019s why I\u2019m alive.
