That was the case with the 2009 original, and he\u2019s been vocal on the topic for years.<\/p>\n<p>He even tasked his crew to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.slashfilm.com\/993673\/the-dietary-restriction-every-avatar-actor-had-to-follow-on-set\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">consume an all-vegan diet<\/a> on the film\u2019s set, although stars could wander away for a Whopper should they need a meaty protein blast.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the director\u2019s views on the subject can be extreme. He publicly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ojp.gov\/ncjrs\/virtual-library\/abstracts\/spikes-bombs-rise-eco-terrorism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">praised those who use violence<\/a> to promote green measures. When a film critic dubbed \u201cAvatar\u201d \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mrctv.org\/blog\/12-most-hypocritical-environmentalists-hollywood\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the perfect eco-terrorism recruiting tool<\/a>\u201d he warmed to the critique.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe in eco-terrorism,\u201d he replied.<\/p>\n<p>Cameron later sounded a more gentle note, albeit one with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/science\/environment\/q-avatar-director-james-cameron-talks-climate-change-n209751\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">little faith in our elected leaders<\/a> saving the planet.<\/p>\n<p>I believe where I can be the most effective is at a grassroots level, which is inspiring and informing people, and using my cinematic skills to make a point.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/climate-change-films-blade-runner\/\"><strong>RELATED: 9 CLIMATE CHANGE-OBSESSED FILMS<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s disturbing, though, how both Di Caprio and Cameron don\u2019t always practice what they preach. The \u201cTitanic\u201d star\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/tvshowbiz\/article-10382825\/Dont-look-Leonardo-DiCaprio-eco-hypocrite-110million-yacht.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">eco-hypocrisy<\/a> is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/celebrity-eco-hypocrites-ford-yorke\/\">stuff of show biz legends.<\/a>\u00a0Here is just one example:<\/p>\n<p>He is a celebrity UN climate change ambassador who has called the issue \u2018the most urgent threat facing our entire species\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>But while he urges fans to take action, Leonardo DiCaprio has been spending time on one of the world\u2019s biggest, and most environmentally unfriendly, superyachts.<\/p>\n<p>Cameron, in turn, also seems unable to live up to his own philosophies. He\u2019s been hounded by critics for a personal lifestyle they say\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/climate-change\/news\/james-cameron-labelled-climate-change-hypocrite-2115151.html?r=36361\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">clashes with his enviro-bromides<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will have to learn to live with less,\u201d Cameron reportedly told the L.A.
