All those expensive solar panels from China are doing nothing to reduce skyrocketing inflation for the Eurozone as a whole since \u201cgreen\u201d energy has a minimal impact on the industrial and transportation costs that figure so heavily into inflation calculations.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p><span>Former European Union trade commissioner Peter Mandelson\u2019s survey of the EU energy landscape in Monday\u2019s <\/span><i><span>Financial Times<\/span><\/i> <span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/edfc84ee-15da-4608-a066-194e14a100b9\">included<\/a> no further pretenses that solar power can replace reliable energy sources, although he still expressed hope that \u201cour shared offshore wind resources will power the UK and Europe\u2019s transition to net zero by 2050.\u201d Meanwhile, European governments are scrambling to exploit forgotten North Sea oil resources, hoping that soaring prices will force their citizens to make do with less energy, and wheedling the United Kingdom to set up a natural gas pipeline in place of the lines Russia shut down.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Germany\u2019s health minister Karl Lauterbach <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aa.com.tr\/en\/economy\/german-health-minister-warns-of-hospital-closures-due-to-energy-crisis\/2713465\"><span>warned<\/span><\/a><span> on Sunday night that Germany\u2019s hospital system could collapse due to rising energy prices, and there is no way for the German government to create enough \u201cspecial funds\u201d to keep wobbling hospitals from shutting down.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Shell Oil CEO Ben van Beurden <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.france24.com\/en\/live-news\/20221023-europe-faces-long-term-pain-from-energy-crisis-shell-ceo\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span> on Sunday that Europe has only been able to manage the loss of Russian gas by \u201cquite significantly\u201d reducing energy consumption \u2013 but he warned that \u201ca lot of this reduction is achieved by switching off industry.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cA lot of people say, turn down the thermostat, or maybe don\u2019t switch on the air conditioning \u2013 but there is also \u2018why don\u2019t we switch off the fertilizer plant that we have\u2019 or \u2018let us scale down on some petrochemical production in general\u2019.
