Meanwhile, her Chinese counterpart\u2019s own concept album is all about waking up \u2014 to God\u2019s love.<\/p>\n<p>Singer-songwriter Gloria Tang Sze-wing of Hong Kong goes professionally by G.E.M. \u2014 Get Everybody Moving \u2014 and has been dubbed \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/av\/world-asia-china-39894630\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">China\u2019s Taylor Swift<\/a>.\u201d She\u2019s the first Chinese-language artist to have a video on YouTube surpass 200 million views, was the only Asian musician on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/profile\/gem\/?sh=537094eb13f5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Forbes\u2019 30 Under 30<\/a> list in 2016, and is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wmg.com\/news\/chinese-superstar-g-e-m-partners-with-warner-music-china-to-release-album-exclusively#:~:text=G.E.M.%20is%20one%20of%20the,million%20views%20on%20the%20platform.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">one of the most-streamed female artists in China<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Her latest album, \u201cRevelation,\u201d was released at the end of last month. She describes on social media the 14-track work from Warner Music China as consisting of seven letters to and from heaven.<\/p>\n<p>The compilation, however, is more than an audial experience, but a visual series with the look of a Hollywood blockbuster that takes place in the real and a futuristic virtual-reality world. Together, the music videos for the album\u2019s songs offer an overarching plot of redemption, healing, and hope through a love story with allusions to the Bible. Think of it as a more enlightening \u201cBlack Mirror.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In Christian entertainment, it\u2019s a revelation. The compilation employs creative, accessible, and engaging storytelling to share the Gospel, especially to nonbelievers. American filmmakers could learn from it, and the world could use more of it.<\/p>\n<p>Traditional Christian media has been criticized for its cheesiness, poor cinematography, and lack of originality. There have been greater imaginative efforts in recent years. Most notably, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/watch.angelstudios.com\/thechosen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Chosen<\/a>,\u201d a crowd-funded, multi-season series about the life of Jesus and his apostles. There are films inspired by true stories. Projects in development seek to get creative with the telling of biblical stories like the animated film \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/thedavidmovieofficial\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">David<\/a>.\u201d Other inventive efforts include \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/invest.angel.com\/theshift-4?gclid=Cj0KCQjwy5maBhDdARIsAMxrkw3__Ge7MPaz7fGrfmmplMw_74kx9ZNJ9fB5PgYmYhA-EX0uOTzBuqEaAl5EEALw_wcB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Shift<\/a>,\u201d a science-fiction allegory.<\/p>\n<p>But perhaps most shocking is that such a big-budget statement with ingenuity has come out of atheism-dominated China.<\/p>\n<p>The lead single, \u201cGloria,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adaymag.com\/2022\/08\/14\/g-e-m-gloria.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">came from a revelation<\/a> experienced by the Shanghai-born singer. She was taking a shower when she thought up the melody that instantly gave her peace during a time when she was struggling with isolation and depression and was turning to prayer. The song provides a salvation-pointing message of a pursuing love that is patient, sufficient, and without fear. Its accompanying video features a gray, desolate wasteland with Gloria, the heartbroken protagonist who shares the singer\u2019s name, in tears falling to her knees in prayer. Before her eyes, a sea of water parts and opens the way to a brighter future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGloria, no need to fear,\u201d G.E.M. sings in Chinese. \u201cGloria, there\u2019s no fear in love \/ My love will stream endlessly \/ My love will heal all scars.\u201d<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>The video has racked up more than 4.3 million views on YouTube.
